CKNW 730

Post by stuffradio »

CKNW is switching from 980 and moving over to 730. It sounds like 980 will cease to exist.

Well thats depressing. Corporate radio scum strike again! Destroy another heritage freq. 730 has better coverage but... name and freq have value, which corporate radio is to dumb to see.

I figured they would move to that frequency Houndpaws much less interference on that frequency.
980 is such an iconic frequency growing up. The times sure have changed for the worse over the years. But it doesn't matter living in Chilliwack l just stream everything radio reception sucks in the central valley. Long gone are the days of 1 local AM home town station like CHWK Chilliwack that carried the Lions and Canucks games.

I used to listen to Canucks games back in the 1990s in CKNW 98. I could pick up the sign at night in the Chilcotin. Of course, I could also pick stations from California even better for some odd reason. Art Bell and the Kingdom of Nye or whatever his show was called. Dreamland or Coast to Coast AM. RIP ART Bell.

I would also sometimes listen to the late night sports segments on 980.

CKNW had some decent late night talk shows that were live and took listeners calls. Those days are long gone too.. David Berner was one name I recall.

I hope NW does a history of 980 before the frequency switch so many memories. I remember my Dad always had NW on driving around and hearing so many iconic announcers over the years. Bob Hutton, Brian (Frosty) Forst, Bill Hughes with roving Mike. Raif Mair then Bill Good, Wayne Cox, Rick Honey, Jack Cullen, Dan Russell the list goes on and on. The frequency may go dead but not the memories. RIP 980

Remember Jack Cullen who would play old radio shows from the 1940s, etc.

He had the largest collection of bootlegged radio programming in the world and he'd play it on the air.
