September 2020 Forecasts and Discussions

Post by stuffradio »

Today is the last day of meteorological Summer. Judging by the forecast, it seems like summer will continue through the first half of September though! Will we see a few rain/wind storms this month? We'll see :)

I dislike the heat, But don't mind it in September. The nights always cool down and living by YVR it never gets too hot.

This is the time of year where dey and warm are the nicest IMO. Maybe little later in the fall even. But yeah I hope it stays nice for the sake of our corn and tomatoes.

Also, go Canucks go! Also, a belated welcome back to mr fish man!

Agreed you leave for work and it's perfect temp, Nice and warm after work but nothing crazy and a late night walk it cools down nicely with the leaves changing colour. I'm a huge Halloween guy so I love this time of year.

Reminds me of football, and Halloween shenanigans lol

Potential record heat next Tuesday...
Models become more consistent Tuesday with the ridge over the area and
the low level flow turning offshore. Big differences in the
temperatures aloft with the ECMWF 850 mb temperatures around plus
15C while the GFS is in the plus 20 to 22C range. Both models have
easterly winds up to 850 mb in addition to the offshore flow at
the surface. Ensemble solutions for the high on Tuesday peak in
the mid to upper 80s for the interior on the ECMWF while the GFS
has a third or so of the solutions with highs in the lower to mid
90s. Have split the difference for now and have gone with mostly
80s and lower 90s Tuesday. It is very possible some record highs
will be broken on Tuesday. Felton
Records are 26.2C at YVR and 30.7C at YXX. EC has gone much cooler for Tuesday, but that's probably just computer-generated climo bias for day 7.

There could be record highs set on a couple other days during this stretch, but Tuesday appears most likely right now.

The nights will likely be very comfortable, which should keep griping from the more heat-sensitive to a minimum. ;)

Ridge has been trending westward over the past few model runs. Not enough to make a big difference for us (we'll still see a moderate heatwave), but has in a big way for those in Alberta south thru Colorado. Some places that were forecast to bake are now seeing snow in the long range forecast.

The Euro is definitely further west with the ridge and brings in the mentioned trough into Alberta and Idaho. The GFS is much further east with the energy.

Go Euro!

Still not a drop of rain for 2 weeks on the 12z gfs for the South coast. Pattern locked in. Fire danger going up this weekend. Metro Vancouver reservoirs look good, currently at the high end of normal even slightly above the levels of 2018 and 2019 which were good water years.
