I think perhaps some people are caught up in the "global warming" trend. Had they coined it "climate change" to begin with, perhaps people would have a different outlook?
Ex. Where's the global warming if it is snowing in LA and FL?
vs It is snowing in LA and FL.. climate change is having it's effect on things.
What do I know though.
You would think people would have common sense, but wow, the number of conspiracy theories people believe online is downright scary.
But to be fair, it is global warming because the planet is warming every year. A one-off event doesn't mean global warming isn't real; it's just funny what people choose to believe on X.

Orange guy wins down south. Blue states see drought and wildfires mid winter. States with most climate change deniers see a very cold January and the red states see an unusual snowstorm. Every comment on X is now saying this single cold wave disproves climate change.
It's purely coincidental but it's funny how it has played out.

Global warming was changed to climate change to appease people who used "warming" to obfuscate the facts about it every time something cold happened. I find it sad that people can't just accept the word warming as the general trend, not an every day occurence. But its not an accident, its intentional. If climate change was used from the beginning, there would've been some other made up issue with that.
By the way, January is running 1.75 C above the pre industrial average for those keeping track. We're closing in on 2 C fast.
Global warming means that cold anomalies are less likely and warm anomalies are less likely as temperatures warm. It certainly is possible to get cold like what happened to Texas in 2021 or what happened this week. Cold is less likely to stick around as well though, which is what we are seeing on the West Coast where we used to get entire months averaging below freezing a few times a decade.
The 18Z says no to cold
Why not try cycling to work, grocery store, anywhere!

It's a casual climate change conversation. I haven't insulted anyone or made it political, just talking about scientific stuff that's related to our weather. Surely we adults are capable of this? Besides, that thread is major dead.
