Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Have a feeling we see another bout of ridging from Dec 10 to Dec 20, followed by progressively cooler and wetter weather and eventual cold shot in the New Year.

Block was never going to be strong enough to hold back the energy coming out of the Aleutians.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
I see most of the ensembles are reverting back to lowering heights in Alaska. We are probably going to be waiting for any meaningful lowland cold and snow for awhile longer. Perhaps between Christmas and New Years. Unless of course the models are wrong.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Makes some sense, the models always seem to have false starts for getting cold here. There would be no better time for a 2 week blast from Dec 20 to Jan 5, spanning the whole break.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
If anyone needs a good laugh this is what Phil on the other forum posted last night
Haven’t had a major wreck (yet), but I got into a road rage incident on I-270 southbound several years back. Don’t like talking about this, but here it goes.
Was pouring rain in the middle of summer, and this dude is driving half the speed limit in the *passing lane*. I started tailgating him a bit, and he responds by break checking me. I try to pass him on the shoulder, but he blocks me intentionally..at this point we’re both doing ~ 80mph and drifting towards the concrete median..obviously testosterone had taken over. I was seeing red and, without thinking, basically pick maneuvered him, which sent him spiraling into highway traffic at a high rate of speed. My blood went cold as I saw his car get hit and spiral back into the concrete median and basically implode. The gravity of the situation hit me like a brick wall. Thought I had killed someone. I can’t really explain the feeling. But I can feel it as real today as I did then.
By some miracle, he was able to walk away. Thank god. I don’t know how. But I still break into a sweat thinking about it. Right now just typing about it. Basically just try to suppress the memory. My driving habits and value system changed completely after that, though. Really try it take it easy these days.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Model noise in the 13-15 day range but looks like the models keep the quasistationary ridge along the west coast in the believable range. You expect the colder values depicted in the mid-range to turn really mild as we edge on the southern storm track.
