LadnerWeather wrote: Thu Aug 12, 2021 3:38 pm That trough sunday into monday keeps getting watered down/delayed. It better deliver us at least a bit of relief from this heat. This is the peak of the summer sockeye/chinook runs in the Fraser and water temps are already too high. Im afraid most of the sockeye will die before they reach their spawning grounds in the central interior if water temps keep rising. The Big Bar landslide devastated the 2019 run and then last years run was the lowest in recorded history. If we lose most of this years run to warm water…that will be 3 out of the 4 runs reduced to mere fractions of what they used to be. Pretty devastating to see whats happening to what was once the greatest sockeye producing watershed in the world. I knew climate change was going to negatively affect our local salmon populations but I never dreamed that I would see it unfold like this in such a short amount of time
Salmon are now on a clear path to extinction. That was a harsh reality for me to come to grips with. They are so important to our ecosystem.

Cool and showery!
Doesn't amount to much unfortunately. This is today's 18Z vs yesterday's. Clear trend towards drier.

Drove back from the Coq summit earlier today. Very Smokey in the valley, almost out towards the Langley area.

Last Friday's GFS advertised 5-10mm for Saturday and we ended up with 15-20mm. If you want a good soaking I wouldn't give up hope.

Very similar to the Saturday of the June heat event minus the humidity plus the smoke. Honestly, I'd prefer the humidity over the smoke.

I hit 37.9c that day. About 1.5 degrees cooler here than that today, and have had a light onshore breeze all day. No outflow at all really.

Another hot day modelled for Friday. We'll see if the smoke effects the temperatures.

Why am I not getting smoke in Maple Ridge if Mission is so awful? Is it going to come here eventually? NOOOOOO!

I don't know what to say at this point. This situation is just beyond anything imagined. Like, we knew the climate was changing and going to eventually be unrecognizable. But we went all in over the course of one season.

Some friend in Seattle offered me a spare room in their basement so that is where I am. At least I can keep the windows closed (and the smoke out) and not die of heat stroke down here.

Just had carpet installed in my place in Bellingham so with all the outgassing it is not going to be possible to close the windows and run the a/c there for another week most likely. Had been camping in the foothills but had to bail on that today when the air quality went down the tubes.
It's called clown range for a reason.
