From what I heard, she essentially said (1) if you're not sick, don't bother getting tested, (2) If you're sick and young and/or healthy, don't bother getting tested, (3) if you're not sick but have had covid-positive contacts, don't bother getting tested but (4) you're sick and older and/or have underlying conditions, then go get tested.

I have no problem with this. Seems to make sense to me.

News from Quebec:
As of Monday, people will need to present a vaccine passport showing they have had at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in order to enter stores that are bigger than 1,500 square metres or 16,000 square feet, including popular big-box stores like Costco, Walmart and Canadian Tire.

The one exception to the vaccine passport rule is for large-surface retailers whose main business is selling groceries or pharmacy items. Both Costco and Walmart sell groceries and pharmacy goods, but they still have to demand vaccine passports because, according to a Health Ministry spokesperson, “their principal activity is not selling groceries or pharmacy items.”

The Health Ministry spokesperson wrote via email that “we invite non-vaccinated people to go to stores that don’t require vaccine passports to have access to the services they need.”

It seems to me this has been the worst week yet, and just when you thought it couldn't get any worse it does. DBH seems to moving the goal posts with her briefings piblic health has abandoned us were in free fall. IMO

there is actually no ability for a senior to book a testing appointment even if they have been exposed. my son's girlfriend tried the booking system out and you have to be a healthcare worker, have cancer or be immuno-compromised to get a test.

If the goal posts are moving in the direction of treating covid less like it's the end of the universe while gradually getting rid of these unprecedented restrictions, then I'm all for it.

Welp Tnine, by making comments that were all going to catch Omnicron eventually like she did a couple of weeks ago. Is either she's frustrated with the anti vaxxed that won't get the jab or perhaps it's a fear tactic to push more to get the jab.
Look at what happened in Quebec when the government announced the un vaxxed tax how many signed up.
I'm hoping DBH was being honest that were all going to catch it like the sessonal flu or cold l just don't know what to believe anymore sometimes.

But is this not exactly what you advocated for when you said she was trying to instill fear in us and put money in the hands of big Pharma? We can't have it both ways. Yes the healthcare system is being slammed by Omicron, not because of its severity but its infectiousness (also possibly our tendency to go to the ER a little too quickly) but people are no longer willing to comply with health restrictions and the businesses affected can't take anymore financial hardship. So instead of being mad and saying BH is abandoning us, why not just say that hey she is listening to the citizens of her province and its time for people to take personal responsibility with this virus? Stay home when sick, stop telling sick employees to come in, etc. Restrictions are no longer the way forward.

Consistency is important. When we as citizens move the goalposts, why would we expect the government to do any different?

My take - I agree with her. Enough government coddling, time for people and businesses to step up and stop forcing people to get sick by sending them in and pretending nothing is wrong. Lets actually be a society and stop waiting for the government to tell us what to do. Do the right thing and we will all be so much better off for it.

I genuinely think she was just being honest. Wouldn't read much more into it.

Interesting thread. Only time will tell if this means there really is really light at the end of the tunnel or will there be yet another hard turn away as we've seen plenty of times over the past two years.
