Time will tell...

I can actually report the first snowflakes on Oct 26th here at my work down near the Sumas border. Definitely flakes mixed with sleet I'd say. Holy smokes a sign of an awesome winter stay tuned.
The 7th annual snowfall contest is canceled due to no snow this winter.

US definition. Rain that had refrozen into little pellets of ice. Is the Canadian definition the same as the British one, basically mixed rain and snow?

And what do you call what those of us to the south call “sleet?”

Ice pellets.

I think most people kind of use “sleet” to describe any type of wintery mix that includes ice pellets

Good to know. Best to avoid ambiguous terms like that.

Pathetic rain totals on all models. 1.5 inches over next 2 weeks. GEM has a bit more but more consensus is we see dirty ridging persist until mid Nov.

We know the rain train is coming. Just wish we could get it over with early.

Yeah I was just curious, because sleet is just any old mess of wintry precipitation, it's a very broad term up north. It seems like in the US sleet is used to describe pure ice pellets.
