All the data from the 1800's and early 1900's are highly dubious for a simple reason: there wasn't Stevenson screens on most sites.

Re: Random Stats
Fairly easy to at least roughly verify by looking at past reports (like the July/August 1898 heatwave) or upper level charts (ex. Jan/Feb 1893 arctic blast). Obviously it won't be 100% accurate but would be good to see if the temps are at least in the right ballpark.Canada Goose wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 8:44 pm All the data from the 1800's and early 1900's are highly dubious for a simple reason: there wasn't Stevenson screens on most sites.

Re: Random Stats
Lytton is either the hottest place in BC or the 3rd hottest depending on which weather station should be used. Here are all 23 hottest stations in BC that averaged more than 35C (Pemberton Wind is ignored because that sounds like a station that's not the standard height about ground).
Here is the same graph with selected stations including YXX, YVR, and YYJ...You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Random Stats
January has warmed considerably from the 1941-1970 normals till the 1981-2010 normals (YVR: 2.4c vs 4.1c).
December has stayed pretty much the same though, cooling slightly even (YVR: 3.8c vs 3.6c).

All time record lows at Port Alberni. Clearly the most extreme temperatures occurred in January 1950...
