It is well known that deforestation can lead to desertification. Groundwater retention is reduced leading to dry top soil and dead vegitation. My 2nd year field research team noted that the diurnal temperature swings were greater in deforested areas (we had a control site where we shaded the readers). This is science that has been peer reviewed and proven countless times.

I always wondered why not leave 20% of the trees up instead of taking them all down?? But maybe that’s really unpractical??
At my old age I have learned that there is always way more to every job/industry than an outsider realizes.

Well, it happened. After basically nailing two snow forecasts for Bellingham (Solstice and last weekend), someone on the Reddit /r/Bellingham forum begged me to set up a Patreon so he could encourage me to continue posting weather forecasts. I now have enough coming in each month to fund a WeatherBELL subscription, something I have never sprung for before, due to the price.

And it wasn’t very hard to beat the National Weather Service. All I had to do was follow model consensus.

Nice! I would say I've gone in the opposite direction where my coworkers have less than zero reason to listen to my "forecasts" lmao. But I'm glad they are funding your weatherbell subscription, I'm going to cancel mine pretty soon here, until maybe next winter.

This is true John. None of us are perfect and there is a lot that us outsiders don't realize about industries. But you are justified in wondering why forestry companies can't leave some trees standing. Wouldn't they be better off in the long run with forests regenerating much faster? But we live in a world where more profitable in the immediate term, faster, cheaper etc, are the only kinds of words that count.
And this does affect our weather. Nito made some good points back a while ago about how deforestation and over development actually suppresses snowfall amounts in areas like ours. And we've all probably felt the moderating effect of being in the forest on a really hot day.

Man 1950 was ridiculous. That would absolutely cripple this city nowadays.

So what this says is since about 1994 winters here suck minus a cupla good snow shots like 96 and 08..which happened when it was cold coincidentally. Esp 96..whoa.
We need another episode like that one.

There's really no way around this. Winters suck now. Our absolute best case scenario winter nowadays is a routine winter from back in the day.

Cool graphic! 1950 was a real anomaly even at its time. One that will happen again no reason for it not to but when could be next year or a hundred years from now
