Re: August 2021 Forecasts And Discussions
Heat here is clutch. Perfect conditions for a heat storm the next 2 days. Smoke layer looks super light but may help keep warmth in overnights due to higher condensation thanks to recent rains and we are getting a well placed thermal trough that will bring downsloping winds during the day.
I doubt lows drop below +25 tomorrow. Fully expect Saturday to be hot as well.

Gonna go out on a limb and say the models are overdoing the heat for tomorrow.
Nice day today so far though.

It always snows in December in the Kootenays

I do sometimes wonder whether some people take pleasure in always depicting the worst possible scenario...

No different than those who lament day after day of rain in the winter. It is what it is. We all have different perspectives of what has occurred and is about to occur this summer. No one is right and no one is wrong. It is what it is. For me this summer has been hell on earth, meteorologically speaking. I am counting down the days to fall.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 3:11 pm I do sometimes wonder whether some people take pleasure in always depicting the worst possible scenario...

Re: August 2021 Forecasts And Discussions
Oh I was more talking the propensity to only predict the worst possible scenario for any season. Like, for example, saying there might be smoke, but instead of keeping high temperatures lower, it'll serve to keep low temperatures higher.Bonovox wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 3:39 pm No different than those who lament day after day of rain in the winter. I apologise for being passive aggressive. I was a little miffed when I read your prediction, Nito.

Is this enough smoke in the Fraser Valley to impact temperatures? I don't know much about smoke density and smoke maps.

Re: August 2021 Forecasts And Discussions
Looking at the cross section, it appears the smoke will be quite low and relatively thick. Probably enough to hamper temperatures. However, that is contingent on the HRRR being right about the smoke. The Canadian smoke model isn't quite as bullish. Last I looked, anyway.

Here is the Canadian model at same time as the HRRR. Not nearly as smokey.
