This has probably been said ad-nauseam on here at this point, but YVR is not representative at all of the region or even the city of Vancouver, especially summer temps. East Van peaked at 40c during that heatwave.
To a similar degree, Penticton is not representative of the Okanagan Valley either because it gets the moderating effect of the winds off the lakes (Okanagan and Skaha). Vernon was -38.9C in Dec 1968, but only -28.0 this month. Similar differences at other southern interior weather stations.
But not Pentiction. It set a new all time record low this month...

Would like to know for January 71, where was the low placement for that continously waves of snow? back then the weather office out in Richmond or Transport Canada as it was under would receive the satellite in 2 pieces half in the morning 2nd half in early afternoon. I remember watching Norm Grohman that Monday evening the day after the Arctic front plowed through on a Sunday evening and l can still remember seeing a nice spiral low just SW of Vancouver Island l was so excited l remember the satellite was black and white of course.
It stalled just off the island somewhere. A more extreme (colder, snowier) version of Feb 2017 for Metro Vancouver.

All ya all always talk about the extreme cold windchill, but you never talk about the extreme warm windchill.
Well, I put the Lytton numbers in the windchill calculator and on 2021-06-29 at 16:00:00 PDT, the temperature was 46.5 and wind 13 km/h.
Plug that into the formula, and the windchill works out to 54C. I guess at hot temperatures wind makes it feel hotter.
I didn't realize that this was a thing that could be considered. I am in Fort Nelson today, the furthest north I have been in BC. -18c outside

Nice! The drive from Fort Nelson to Watson Lake, Yukon is my favourite because you see a lot of wildlife. bison, caribou, moose, bear, sheep, and even porcupine. Plus, the Liard River hotsprings. It's awesome how the clear the right-of-way like that. If you drive on the Cassiar highway to get to Watson Lake, the trees grow right to the edge of the road so you almost hit deer or moose and never see wildlife otherwise.
The federal government does the Alaska highway, which is why it's in much better shape. BC has inferior highway building verses other provinces and states.

Yes, I know pretty much the entire Pacific Northwest set all-time records that week, just pointing out how the wind direction screwed Richmond/Delta out of all-time highs. Easterlies would had put YVR up to 35+ for sure. Personally, the warmest I've experienced in Metro Van is still July 2009, but that's because I spent that entire heat wave up in Mission instead of in Richmond lol
Officially, yes we were screwed but I recorded 41/42 C that month as an all time high (was on my old machine that turned into a wasp nest and I never d/l the history )
but I am in a sheltered spot within Ladner, so the breeze isn't as much of a factor and we usually show a degree or two either way off of the official YVR measurement.

1935 was the big one. Extreme cold, snow, freezing rain, and rain all in a two week period.
Too bad none of us (except John of course ) were around for that event.
