lol i gotcha. Lets get you out of town asap then.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 7:10 pm I have never seen more than some fleeting slushy flakes that melt as soon as they hit the ground in March in the PNW. Not any more than that in 30+ years. It is my March snow jinx.
The only way it snows and sticks in March is if I leave town.
Sorry, I don’t make the rules. I just report the rules. I am not allowed to experience sticking snow in March. There are now two more days in which sticking snow is possible then it is all over for the season.
Actually I dont care much if it snows here, the mountain snow checkmark is everything here. But I do think Friday could be your March slump buster.

Garbage precip intensity out west. Getting donut holed. Hope the next several hours produces at least a bit of a save.

The occasional March snow dump in Vancouver isn't rare at all. Pretty common actually, especially away from the water. I think you've just been unlucky.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 7:10 pm I have never seen more than some fleeting slushy flakes that melt as soon as they hit the ground in March in the PNW. Re: February 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
I thought the same last season at this time. But as soon as the calendar rolled over it was bust after bust after bust for metro Vancouver despite the overall favourable pattern and just about everyplace else scoring. Even some places on the Oregon Coast got snow while we got bupkis. It was then that I realized the March snow jinx is real.

That's interesting, but March is definitely a hit or miss month to begin with.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 7:49 pm I thought the same last season at this time. I have a ridiculously lucky streak when it has to do with snow in general, especially major events. For example, I happened to be in the lower mainland for 2008 and Lower Mainland/Victoria for 1996 even though I lived in Williams Lake/Kelowna at the time(s). When I was in Scotland in 2010 they had their biggest arctic blast in decades. I'll throw in Kelowna during that Dec 2017 arctic fart that probably dumped a metre over there and was a dud here.
And I haven't really missed a major one since moving to the farm here, any of the big dumps that is. Hopefully my lucky charm counteracts your jinx on Friday. Or Sunday for that matter.

March snow jinx already starting to show up on the GFS. Seattle gets snow, Portland gets snow, Eugene gets snow, Oregon Coast gets snow, Lower Mainland gets bupkis. Again.

Re: February 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
I just got home.. drove from South Surrey.
Here is what I saw.. South Surrey around 24th Ave between 152 to 168th Light dusting of white/snow covering grass and roofs. Nothing on the roads. Driving North along 168th through the farmland, snow was falling but not sticking at all. Once up into the Cloverdale area you could see the snow falling a lot better and grass was white with roofs also being white. Nothing on roads. Temp at 0 through this part. When I got up to 168th and Fraser Highway temp dropped to -1 and snow was sticking to almost everything. Once I hit Tynehead at 96th & 168 and up to Highway 1 snow started sticking to the roads and was coming down decently. When I finally got to my area snow was sticking to the road turning it white at -1. So again, Guildford the coldest and snowiest part of Surrey. Mind you I don't know what was happening in Newton.
Currently snowing at -0.8 DP: -2 According to the fence top, I can guess about 1cm has accumulated. So far this has under-performed unless the goods are still coming.

Maybe 6 cm on ground near the river in Squamish, mostly in the last hour. Looking better...

Pointless map though as it doesn't accurately do precip on the lowlands. I think everyone here knows the GFS map at a a distance out is almost always wrong.
