Yeah the weather factor might not be too noticeable tonight. If anything it'll probably just slow the game down which I don't know if that's in our favour.
I think we'll be fine. I doubt many of the Costa Rican players have ever experienced temps this cold before.

The game on Tuesday vs Mexico will be more impacted by the weather conditions. Looks to be very cold with temps around -8c.

Second most repeated analogue on that list 1956-57 was also an excellent winter. Cold January with a mean temp of -1.1c at YVR and had snow on the ground for more than a month. Naturally it was even colder and snowier across most other areas in the lower mainland.

Agreed. I prefer WeatherBell as well. It does cost more per month, but its worth it in my opinion.

This upcoming Pineapple Express looks similar to the November 1990 Atmospheric River event. Abbotsford recorded 79.6 mm on the 9th and another 61.0 mm on the 10th for a storm total of 140.6 mm.

Some model runs have been showing similar amounts for this upcoming storm Sunday and Monday. It could easily end up less intense than the 1990 event but it does look similar in my opinion.

Yeah. Was a lot wetter further east.

Pitt Lake had 66.5mm, 92.0mm, and 53.0mm on the 8th, 9th and 10th respectively.

Como Lake (Central Coquitlam) had 47.0mm, 65.0mm, and 53.6mm in that same timeframe.

If we're sitting here after another failed December/January I'm going to lose it. This is a big chance.

January especially sticks out like a sore thumb in recent decades. We've basically had an entire generation grow up around here not experiencing even half the potential the month used to bring on a relatively frequent basis.

YVR hasn't dropped to -10c since 2004 and no monthly average below freezing since 1993.

For December... at least we've had 2008 and 2016. Though we never really did have extreme cold in 2016, the persistence made for an impressively cold monthly average, just like Feb 2019.

Yeah been pretty paltry even here in Cranbrook. Hardly any snow or cold temps so far. :|
It always snows in December in the Kootenays

Keep the faith my friends. In summary, no cold air so far but it will be mid November only in a few days. I was hoping for an early "warning shot", but storm after storm has kept us saturated. I think later this month or early December we're going to get some
January 2025 incoming..looks like more Pineapples..Happy New Year!
