We have seen a massive influx of people that are really ill-equipped to handle snow in the region. There are zero educational campaigns to make newcommers aware of the dangers of ice and snow.

We need winter driving lessons, winter prepardness kits in vehicles and tips for dressing for the conditions including ice cleats for kids who walk in the snow. My wife is a teacher and sees kids either being overdressed for +15C weather or underdressed for -5C weather.
A lot of people who come here have never experienced snow before.

Outflow was pumping all night. Dew point is -5 at YYJ. And the temp at 1000ft is -3C right now. It’s gonna snow for awhile in Victoria especially the higher elevations.

Other neighbouring school districts called snow days, but never mine, probably because most of its students walked to school. Worse yet, I was in Illinois during a long run of dud winters. The year before my family moved in, there had been a big snow, and the other kids never stopped talking about it. The winter after my family moved out was the first of two back-to-back epic winters in the Midwest. That really stung. (As a consolation prize, I they did have a big snow in April, which being in April melted fast, but was fun just because of the novelty factor but it did not define a winter by having a thick blanket around for months.)

And the town we moved to in the southern Rockies then began its own string of dud winters, so once again I got to hear the other kids talk about how epic it was before I had moved there. It took until I was in high school for the curse to break, and when it finally happened, it was glorious. I still remember the feeling of realizing how 20 cm had fallen already, there was absolutely no sign of it stopping anytime soon, and that I was finally experiencing a big snow.
Sounds like you were a walking curse for a while

Yeah, some areas are just so used to snow that they don't bother canceling anything. Those areas are way better equipped to handle the snow and cold.

We had a kid who walked to school no matter the weather, always in a t shirt and shorts. It could be -5 and snowing, and you see him walking, lol. He would never wear a jacket, and I'd look at him like he was insane.

Ah, fun times.

I do remember ( can't remember exactly the year). Maybe 2008 or 2009, we had a big snowball fight outside during lunch break. Well, this kid who lived closed by maybe 3 minute walk. He froze snowballs into ice and walked over at lunch, grabbed them, and he started throwing ice balls. Soon as that happened, we weren't allowed to play in the snow again lol

Lower levels will saturate quickly today. My guess is 5-10cms more snow in some pockets.

All cancelled out with your move north of the 49th and multiple pumblings of snow right away

Yeah I’m thinking mistakes were made bringing the kids to school. My youngest only had 5 kids in her class this morn. Middle school didn’t have many kids either. 😬😬
