Euro weeklies were showing this signal right? They got the January cold right from 3 weeks out.

Honestly. I am spent from model riding. I want snow in Whistler. Will spend quite a bit of time for the next two months up there.

This is at the Burnaby Mountain trails. Measure 13 inches on that railing today. Very nice walk with family and dog.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
Yeah it is a decent area! I’ll be moving back to the Marshall and McCallum area in a couple of months. That area always seemed to do a bit worse despite only being 3 Km away. But maybe that was just my own perception.SouthSardiswx wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 9:17 pm Nice that's an open elevated area you got more snow then my nothing burger but wet snow back in early January up off of Old Yale and McMillan.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
SNOWSTORM SCORE!
This was an epic widespread snowstorm for the lower mainland. Most areas saw 18 to 38cm of snow!
This was indeed a great setup for snowfall. I hope everyone is enjoying it!
It might not be over yet!
Looking at models tomorrow, and current temps and conditions, there is a possibility of another 3 to 8cm of snow Thursday across the LM. Higher elevations and eastern areas will once again do better, but something is giving me a funny feeling about Thursday.
LOOK --> Thursdays snow potential. Cover the little grey area blue as well for now.
Thursday night could see a bit of freezing rain, hard to really say. More possible in the valley. But could it stay as snow? That is the question. Moving into Friday it will eventually warm up. How much? Unsure. Low level cold is trapped at the surface for sure, and the ground is frozen and now insulated, so the dynamics will be fun to watch.
As we warm a bit over the weekend, hopefully not too much, the only thing I hope for is that the rain forecast busts so that the snow is not melted and washed away so fast.
Things look interesting in the longer range. Winter might not be over quite yet.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
He was the oldtimer who ran the Tatlayoko Lake weather station from 1928 to 2004 (or something like that), though I think his mom ran it in the beginning (he was born in 1912 I think). The -40 degrees reading last weekend marks just the third -40 ever recorded there (the others being 1950 and 1968 of course).
Not many left who were old enough and living down in the valley 55 years ago to tell me when the ice froze. The only one I can think of is Gerry Bracewell, and she will be 102 years old a few months and lives in Williams Lake now.
Everyone out there old enough to remember 1972 arrived in the later 1970s to early 1980s so they wouldn't have seen the lake frozen except for 1997.
