Looks like a pretty standard July heat wave but the media is treating it like a repeat of 2021.
City News 1130 called it a "Special Weather Warning", but it's still just a Special Weather Statement on the EC website. They also said "Frazier Valley", so I guess it's not for us.
It remains to be seen if we'll meet the criteria for a heat wave, which is as follows:
Western Metro Vancouver including the North Shore, City of Vancouver and Richmond, Howe Sound, Whistler, Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island (except northern sections)
Issued when 2 or more consecutive days of daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach 29°C or warmer and nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to fall to 16°C or warmer.
British Columbia – Southwest inland - Eastern Metro Vancouver including Coquitlam and Surrey, and the Fraser Valley
Issued when 2 or more consecutive days of daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach 33°C or warmer and nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to fall to 17°C or warmer.
I personally think these are flawed and they should use the daily mean instead. That would be a daily mean of 22.5C or higher for Vancouver and 25C or higher for the valley.
I reached 28.6C here yesterday.
