Hey does anyone know how much snow and rain Belcarra gets annually? Environment Canada does not have that location on its site.

Just curious if its similar to Port Moody? The elevation ranges from around 0m near the water to 87m higher up but the closest station I can find is in Port Moody at 127m. I assume around 87m in Belcarra there would be at least a bit less snow.

Has anyone visited the area during low elevation snow events?

Similar rainfall and snowfall to Port Moody.

FWIW Belcarra gets cut off quite frequently during wind events. Rural area, lots of trees and power lines easily come down.

From my time living there sea level was very hit and miss during marginal snow events. There were times I was surprised how well we did and others I was expecting more than we got. Lots of rain, some fog, disappointing wind events. Sheltered.

Thanks, thats what I had assumed. Yeah, I notice on BC Hydro's outage page that Belcarra and Anmore frequently lose power during wind and snow events. Its pretty much a given that they will experience outage during those storms due to the tall trees near the power poles.
Its just the reality of living in rural areas. Monty said Shawnigan Lake loses power frequently as well, and for the same reasons I'd assume.

Yep. Lots of trees near the power lines. Generally anything above about 70kmh means power outages but 1 strong storm in the fall can “prune” the trees and make things better for the rest of the winter.

My grandparents used to live in Swansea Point and Sicamous and both locations had frequent power outages. My grandma hated it because she had to continuously reset all the clocks. Similar issue, lots of tall trees near the power lines but there are also issues with vehicles hitting the power poles along the highway. I think there is only one line that feeds the whole area so if it goes down, the whole area is out.
I heard BC Hydro was working to bring in a secondary line though if I'm not mistaken.

That said, I loved their place in Swansea Point. It was absolutely beautiful. Nice pond, garden, and creek in their backyard. Just a short 3-5 minute walk from the lake. The only downside was that it was in the worst location for mudslides. They got hit hard in 1997 during a massive slide that took out the road and sent piles of mud and debris crashing into their basement. The same thing happened to their house again in 2012 but they had moved to Kelowna since then so they thankfully only experienced it once.

I don't know for sure, but I think their house got hit the worst out of all the homes in the area both times due to its proximity to the mountain and the driveway, which was on a downslope. Beautiful home, stunning location, but high risk of your basement being filled with mud and debris during heavy rains and high snowpack. Lots to consider if the home is ever up for sale and one wishes to buy it.
