Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
I want to ask...what gives with YYJ still not reporting ANY precip? They've been under the green radar for ages, and yet the LM is seeing flurries before Victoria?

RadarScope shows widespread freezing rain. If it's snowing, then the radar data is incorrect.

SNOWSTORM!!
BLIZZARD LIKE CONDITIONS!!
On the eve of a major snowfall!
So, the snow starting a little later than what I thought yesterday. I thought we would see some flurries by dusk, however skies were a bit clear which was a bonus to bring down temps again.
Get ready, it should start snowing any time now or in the next hour or so. Over night it will intensify. Wed morning will see heavy snow across the lower mainland/island/fraser valley.
Amounts of anywhere from 10cm to 35cm depending on elevation/eastern locations. Basically the further east you go, the more snow.
Blizzard like conditions could develop from Abbotsford east to hope. Blowing snow and drifting snow on the Sumas prairie.
Models actually improved today, so snow chances improved westward toward sea level. You might see a bit more snow than first thought.
It could stay snowing all day tomorrow, and taper to flurries.
Freezing rain looks less likely now. There could be a bit, but the major disaster scenario will not occur.
Thursday night, Friday, very interesting to see what transpires here. There is a chance it remains cool enough for a bit more snow, and then possibly some better weather. Also a chance of another cool down. Will have to see how the models work it out on Wed/Thurs. Surprises are lurking this whole week! Spy them out!
Enjoy a snowy night, and a snowy Wed. Don't travel. Things are going to be very slick and messy. Snow will freeze on contact with the road and cars driving over it making ice a big problem.
Here comes winter!

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
Only thing I can think of is the precip intensity has not been strong enough to saturate the column of air yet.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 10:23 pm I want to ask...what gives with YYJ still not reporting ANY precip? Just wondering what sort of slyty of hand he'll be pulling from the sardinery playbook this time.

But somehow it's saturated the column in Abbotsford?
