I will never let him forget that one.
He should be somewhat happier tomorrow morning. Once the banked cold air erodes and moderates a bit, it will be rain for Vancouver, and I suspect much of that modeled “snow” in the coming days will be rain or mixed precip below 200 m, particularly during daylight hours. The models have sucked at precipitation type this year and I am not expecting that to change.

From the looks of the temperature predictions, we might get another dump of wet slop Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Will change to rain in lower elevations by Thursday afternoon, however.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Yep I'm not looking forward to commuting this week.

However I am very confident that we will be getting cold again before long. EPO and PNA trending downwards on all ensembles in the long range.

About 5 or 6 cm in Dunbar. Enough that I’ll be shovelling wet snow in the rain this morning :(

December 2021 was my favourite cold snap since 2008. Jaw dropping temps of -15 at YVR, snowing at -12, Timing during the holidays, snow arrives on Christmas day. The champagne powder has been sensational. Walking through it is like a knife through warm butter. It didn't have the snow depth to match some other cold snaps but I don't need a metre of snow to be happy.

Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: Sun Jan 02, 2022 8:07 am I finally beat VanCitySouth, who had been consistently beating me in the snow totals up to this morning. I think that’s because of the more southerly aspect of this one. Earlier events had a more westerly aspect, and I’m in the lee of Little Mountain. It’s surprising how much even very modest terrain features like that can have on precipitation.

This time, however, the flow would place that shadow to the north of Little Mountain instead of to its east. If it existed at all, that is, and I suspect it does not. The summit of that hill is doubtless still against the boundary layer of the low level cold banked up against the North Shore Mountains that the precipitation is just riding over.

These sort of events are often wins for Canada in the snow department. The rain/snow line often comes close to matching the border, in fact! I have seen this pattern many times in the reported observations over the years.
Yes very wet and rainy is the default, and usually during marginal events too. But we also get many surprises due to the varied terrain, like Catnip (David Jones write up) pointed out. Also, throw in the colder SSTs, with cold troffs in the Pacific dropping south, and this year is not the same buttees.
So far its only Jan 2 and we have had many victories on

Definitely made it into top tier territory, at least by the standards of recent decades (and wasn’t that far from some of the real top tier cold snaps of earlier decades). With how there was snow at the onset leading into very cold temperatures, it reminded me very much of December 1990 in Seattle.

Agreed. Was definitely snowier back in 2017 (man that was one major storm at least here in E. Abbotsford/Chilliwack) - that being said this one just "felt" better - more complete, even though snow was lacking in comparison. Some of the storms we experienced throughout the 90's though still take the cake for me though hehe :) Though this has been a great run for sure

Nice little draw of interior air out ahead of that system on Wednesday night. Gonna be a snowy one. And quite possibly not slop to begin with. Though Thursday looks ugly, sleet, freezing rain and rain

You realize that snow levels are dropping again soon... once the front passes thru right? GFS is bullish on snow Monday pm thru to Thursday pretty much. I believe they also predicted(~2 days ago) the big donut over us right now. T3? Can you verify this?
