Re: Covid Pandemic
Normal will only return when the majority of people want it to. Since COVID is probably going to be endemic, we'll have to collectively decide how long is reasonable to keep protective measures in effect. How many COVID deaths are tolerable in exchange for complete freedom? We already tolerate many flu deaths every winter.
I suspect we'll top out somewhere between 85-90% fully vaccinated in Canada. Some regions will have higher vaccination rates, while others will be lower. Some US states will not likely ever get above 70%.
This doesn't account for booster shots, which I expect far fewer people to get. If they start requiring booster shots every 6-12 months to keep your vaccine passport up to date, people will eventually get fed up.

Re: Covid Pandemic
I have no problem getting boosters but I believe this will become less serious in the next few months after delta fades. I will start getting my flu shots too. I've enjoyed not being sick.Abby_wx wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 1:48 pm Normal will only return when the majority of people want it to. Re: Covid Pandemic
Good plan Kells l get a flu shot every year, l'm thinking since last year the yearly flu was a no show l feel this year will be bad.
I just hope they don't chalk the flu numbers in with Covid to scare the un vaxxed into getting the jab.

Re: Covid Pandemic
Why would they do that? If the 5+ million dead worldwide doesn't make it happen then flu numbers definitely wouldn't.SouthSardiswx wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 11:11 pm Good plan Kells l get a flu shot every year, l'm thinking since last year the yearly flu was a no show l feel this year will be bad.

Re: Covid Pandemic
I mainly got vaccinated for other people's sake. I'm personally not scared of COVID.
Both COVID and the flu are mainly dangerous for people over 50 -- particularly those over 80, and those who are at risk due to pre-existing conditions.
I haven't had the flu in 24 years despite never getting a flu shot.

Re: Covid Pandemic
I took the Vax to make my dad happy, and also so I could play hockey.
My nursing friend told me today that she had her first triple vaxxed patient in the ER.

Re: Covid Pandemic
Some talk show host mentioned that there probably including flu patients in with Covid numbers last winter that's why it seemed non existent.
Apparently hospitals get so much money per Covid patient so why not include flu patients
Crazy theory but who knows anymore Kells.

Re: Covid Pandemic
Talked to a friend last night who just got his first dose (he already had the Covid but needs the Vax to keep his job). Anyway, they are recommending not to get Pfizer and instead get Moderna because it's more effective. However, more severe reactions from Moderna so he told them to give him Pfizer. They kept telling him that no, he needs to take Moderna. He said that he was leaving without any shot if they didn't give him Pfizer, so they agreed to do it.
He's in his 40s so Moderna is probably safe, but Sweden and Denmark have decided that it's not safe for those under 30.

Re: Covid Pandemic
Hmm. I hadn't heard moderna was more likely to produce side effects. I wonder if it's related to the more effective immune response. I had moderna for my second shot (AZ first) and although I had no flu like symptoms, I did have some serious inflammation in my ankles after I decided to play soccer the same night I got the shot. I heard other people had similar weird experiences.Glacier wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 9:10 am Talked to a friend last night who just got his first dose (he already had the Covid but needs the Vax to keep his job). I had Moderna for both. Second shot knocked me out for 3 days. I've had some ongoing issues that became worse after the shots so I have no idea what is going on.

Re: Covid Pandemic
It is absolutely ridiculous that doctors, companies, provinces, states, countries, etc, are not recognizing natural immunity from having had covid. The science behind it has been there for many years!Glacier wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 9:10 am Talked to a friend last night who just got his first dose (he already had the Covid but needs the Vax to keep his job). "Dr. Jeffrey Klausner, a clinical professor of population and public health sciences at the University of Southern California, co-authored an analysis published last week that showed that infection generally protects for 10 months or more. “From the public health perspective, denying jobs and access and travel to people who have recovered from infection doesn’t make sense,†he said."
"A large study in August from Israel, which showed better protection from infection than from vaccination, may help turn the tide toward acceptance of prior infection, Klausner said. “Everyone is just waiting for Fauci to say, ‘Prior infection provides protection,’†he said."
"When Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top federal expert on infectious diseases, was asked in a CNN interview last month whether infected people were as well protected as those who have been vaccinated, he hedged. “There could be an argument†that they are, he said. Fauci didn’t immediately respond to a KHN request for further comment."
