Re: December 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
Welcome back Monty..a little snow to help out . Looks like a very tough start to this snowy season. I think after today you'd be in the lead in SW BC and Island with 1cm seasons total
And here it is..December 2024 all snow geeks have been waiting for ..with the LR weather "charts" calling for a cold and snowy month. Where's the troffing?

Re: December 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
Good news is ECMWF weeklies show a +PNA pattern for most of January. We could see tons of dry weather with frost next month!

Re: December 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
Heard 1989-90 thrown around as an analogue. One of the biggest February snowstorms in recorded history for Vancouver that year. Snow lingered on the ground for a while thereafter as well as a shot of modified arctic air that followed led to some impressive min temps aided by the low level cold from the deep snow cover.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 7:20 am Blowtorch with multiple opportunities for ARs the next month. Ridging late January with retrogression by early Feb.
Unfortunately think cold will linger on in that March-May period.
Of course, we could continue following the 2005-06 analogue which has been pretty spot on thus far with a long dry backdoor blast in February as well.
A cold spring to follow with multiple slushfalls in March and April wouldn't surprise me

1966-67 and 2005-06 analogues continue to prove their worth with the alternating ridging and this Aleutian Low pattern.

I would rather see a 2015 or 2016 JFM again at this point. Let's get a head start on spring.

Yeah, I think the writing is on the wall for a cold March and April.

Re: December 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
You’ve been saying this for many years now but you know full well that cold months happen maybe once or twice a year. Also if we get a bad snowpack then we’ll be begging for a cold spring for drought concerns.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 1:56 pm Yeah, I think the writing is on the wall for a cold March and April.

Re: December 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
As it turned out it looks like SFU got nothing today except a few flakes. I checked the webcams a couple times this morning and didn't see anything.
