Won’t verify, of course, but fun to fantasize about. Even 10˚F warmer still means a decent garden-variety blast, which sure beats all the torching currently going on.
35F in Portland. Looks like cold rain for our Oregon friends.

Only 1 extreme cold date in the last 20 years on Abby Jr's list and 2008 was already 12 years ago. Only 9 in my lifetime (since 1980) and most of those were set before I was in Grade 1. Yup, climate change.

Our biggest regional snowstorms occur when moisture overruns a deep pool of cold air at the surface. Here are some examples...

Feb 14th, 1923: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_d ... 23&Month=2#
Jan 20th, 1935: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_d ... &Year=1935
Dec 31st,1968: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_d ... 8&Month=12#
Jan 11-15th, 1971: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_d ... 1&Month=12#
Dec 28/30th, 1990: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_d ... 0&Month=12#
Dec 27/28/29th, 1996: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_d ... 6&Month=12#
Just letting you know the link for the January 1971 event was for December 1971. You may want to fix that. :D

But 61cm snow depth at YVR?  Good luck with that happening again in our warming climate.
