The entire planet is warming faster than average...

Sounds ridiculous until you remember that most of the planet is water. Water has a high thermal inertia (warms more slowly), so it's not surprising that most areas where people live (land) would be warming faster than the global average. I'd guess that most of those news arcticles would ignore this fact, though.

This graphic clearly shows the most intense warming is over land, mainly in the northern hemisphere, and in the arctic.

Greta's transatlantic yacht trip was a total publicity stunt. It did nothing to minimize carbon emissions; the trip prompted two crew members to fly from Europe to New York to retrieve the boat. That's right, twice the number of seats Greta would had consumed if she had simply flown herself.

And the publicity stunt worked: most people didn't notice the hypocrisy (and yes, that's what it is). If the trip prompts progress on reducing emissions, I will have to judge it a success.

After all, it's politics, not science. Politics is often illogical, irrational, hypocritical, and emotions-based. So be it. Science was tried for thirty years, and it never worked to prompt action. (Really. I've kept an eye on climate science, and the 1980's is when the consensus really firmed up that anthropogenic COâ‚‚ was a big problem. That's thirty years ago.)

Someone (not Einstein, though it's often misatributed to him) one quipped that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Scientists publishing papers accomplished nothing in the way of prompting the needed changes. Time to play politics.

For those who do not think we are in a climate emergency. One of the biggest worries is runaway climate change from the melting permafrost. The melting of the permafrost released stored carbon. One tonne of carbon released is 3.5 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide CO2 when it is oxidized. Scientists now think that we may have reached this point that the permafrost is realeasing more carbon then is being stored each year.

The report concludes that permafrost ecosystems could be releasing as much as 1.1 to 2.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide per year — almost as much as the 2018 annual emissions of Japan and Russia, respectively

The year-to-date (Jan. thru Nov. 2019) temperature was 1.69°F above avg -- the second-warmest such period on record. Only the same YTD period in 2016 was warmer
