East coast snow lovers are probably cheering against an October cold snap. October snows in the eastern seaboard have historically been a bad sign for them.

Pretty mixed signals for us in that regard.

Late October snows in 1971 and 1984 translated to excellent winters...but mix in 1991 and they can also lead to crapfests.

Likely we see our first widespread first sub 10C highs of the season today.

As of 3pm, Vancouver and Abbotsford have only hit 9.1C with Pitt Meadows sitting at 8.9C for a high.

In agreement with you here.

Thinking we'll have two main periods of winter weather this season. Mid to late November is looking pretty good, as is late December thru mid January. However, we've all bet on January to deliver recently and ended up with a big egg on our faces so only time will tell.

As for Feb...After three snowy Februaries, I'm thinking this we'll strike out this season. Can't imagine us seeing four in a row.

Looks very cold to close out the month for the central and eastern part of the continent. Relatively mild for us out west.

I sure hope so. I'd much rather have cold and snow in the coldest months, rather than February. Many of our fringe elevation dependent snows we've seen in February would have been widespread had they occurred in December or January.
