My brother said that Kelowna smoke has become intolerable. Lets just hope that onshore flow keeps going through much of August.

Hi Leighbugs, hwy 1 through Three Valley Gap is still open as of right now, seems like the biggest concern through there is the fire reaching the highway on the east side of Three Valley Lake. You could take your chances trying to get through there, even then, the new Osoyoos fire looks like it’s on the brink on closing hwy 3.

Picture is from Three Valley Gap last night.

Safe travels, god speed!

The GEM is a bit better, but not nearly good enough.

Leighbugs wrote: Tue Jul 20, 2021 3:25 am Oh geez, I'm just catching up...a fire is close to the Coq also?! How would I even get to Golden assuming the Coq is open but Three Valley highway one is closed? And how would I get there if the Coq was closed AND highway one? I am looking at maps but it's so hard to judge which way is best...

I have to go. Hubby is going for business, working on the highway 1 project just outside of Golden and I'm going along for the trip and then right after we plan to head to the cabin for a few days and spend some time sightseeing around B.C.
We have to be in Golden by tomorrow (21st) evening. Hopefully we can manage to sneak by before things get too crazy and routes maybe start closing. But anyone here who is more familiar with routes/times...I'm open to back-up suggestions of how to get around this in the least possible time, just in case. Looking at a map, it's obvious we would have to approach Golden from the south instead of via Revelstoke but what is the fastest route to do that? I see a road heading north of Nakusp and through that area but I am just not at all familiar with that part of the province.
If Hwy 1 is closed thru Three Valley Gap and the Coq is open, take it into Kelowna, head north to Vernon and take Hwy 6 east to Nakusp, then head north on Hwy 23 into Revelstoke. Just as a heads up... there are a couple small ferries on that route when crossing the arrow lakes.
