Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
So, in the end- we got a literal dusting- not even enough to measure. Strangely, N. Nanaimo, which usually performs well in these set ups, didn't have much more than here.
however, a friend of mine, who lives in the Cowichan area, posted a pic from 4 am this morning of her freshly shovelled drive and it looked like there was about 25 cms there. So most of the energy was between Ladysmith and the Malahat, I guess.

Looks like temps bottomed out at -13.5c in east Coquitlam earlier this AM.
Two wunderground stations closest to me recorded lows of -13.3c and -13.7c.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
I cannot believe it's 11:00 am and -12C at my place right now. Who'd have thought this would happen after how this winter started out? I was just at Sunpeaks resort over the holidays and it was RAINING. There was no snow in Kamloops whatsoever. I honestly did not expect winter to make an appearance, in January no less. It seemed like early February was outperforming January for quite a few years now.
I guess the moral of the story is it's not winter cancel until it's REALLY winter cancel in April, LOL.

Gotcha - yeah not sure about that one. The wind is very strong here this time around in Abbotsford - I can't remember what happened on the windchill front back then but maybe someone else knows.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 10:26 am Oh, was talking wind chill not actual temp. But maybe YXX had today beat in 2021 for that too. I really am not the stats guy.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
I live in the donut hole of the valley when it comes to snow. We typically underperform... Except when it comes to wind/cold during these northeast fronts that come in from time to time. I'd rather the snow though. We had less than 1cm (more like a trace) during yesterday's event.

Well, that’s disappointing. Just not much moisture with this one.Michael1 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 11:02 am So, in the end- we got a literal dusting- not even enough to measure. Strangely, N. Nanaimo, which usually performs well in these set ups, didn't have much more than here.

At least you didn’t get completely skunked.

The vaunted strait effect snow is forming over the strait and disappearing before it hits the east island.
