I hate to say it, but the GFS actually performed the best in the long range out of all the models for that January arctic outbreak. Of course it was way overdone on the cold, but it locked onto the overall pattern well in advance and was consistent. Eventually the other models caved to a less extreme and shorter duration solution of the GFS, which ended up verifying.

At this point if nothing verifies, I'm not too sad. If this were in December, WELL THEN...

Do Northern areas of Metro Vancouver get any snow? GEM says maybe. ;)

(Yes, I realize this will likely be above 500m)

At face value...you take the GEM over the GFS if you want chilly weather with a tiny chance of Oct snow.

GFS has a less amplified ridge and the trough is a quick hitter.

I understand the unlikeliness of this, but it is pretty amazing to be tracking this stuff in OCTOBER.

Ya , this place ain't the same without Hawk's early morning emoji  droppings and daily blob editorials.
And getting bombarded by Sardineman's rapid fire postings. Last time he said he was busy at work. Huh? Can't spare 30 seconds? Isn't that usually good for half a dozen posts?

The Sheriff a little quiet too,not handing out off topic tickets lately, maybe still busy with weather station inspections.

Catnip man and Stormer have been quiet too, but they’ll be back soon. I hope!

Good evening folks!
A lot of snow falling over southern Alberta tonight. As well as Northern BC.
It looks like winter is arriving early this year!
I smell possible snow for the higher elevations of the lower mainland coming this weekend. Wow!
This is turning into something different for once.

I see you people have already caught what some of the models are suggesting.

Get your winter tires ready. :woohoo!:
