Cold 850mb temps and light E outflow.
There is a pretty chilly trough missing just to the east around that time.

Jan 1971 was pretty insane. 61 Cm on the ground at YVR on the 15th, gone by the 18th. Another quick hitting blast after that. 121 cm total for the month. Wish I was alive to experience the 60's/70's.

Over 100cm fell in five days. One of the greatest snowstorms in history to hit Metro Vancouver.

I'm actually seeing some melting this evening, 2.7C with a light southerly breeze. The snowcover has held up surprisingly well the last two days.

Yup,had to drop my road hockey stick with the plastic blade for a little while and build igloos, have snowball fights, and bumper ski instead.
Those were the days my friend, I thought they'd never end.

That one was insane. I wish I was alive and living here to experience it too. Pretty dramatic switch to heavy snow as soon as the arctic front starting pushing through.

I don't know why we can't experience these types winter storms anymore. Seems like the 500mb pattern is never prime for it anymore.

Temp has flatlined at -0.5°C here. Odd that Abby has gone above freezing before me. Typically it’s the other way ’round.

Tomorrow looks melty.
It's called clown range for a reason.

I'm sure John has some stories about walking 20 miles to school in 2 feet of snow.
