2013-14 was like that too, and even more extreme at times (early Dec and early Feb).
We still did well in December. We got snows on the 4th, 11th and New year's Eve off the top of my head. January, definitely too dry. But Seattle managed to get skunked for all of those I believe.

Cold, possibly slushy, rain beats the pants off 10ËšC rain and melting snowpacks in the mountains.
It's called clown range for a reason.

I was in Seattle for that winter and for the most part it sucked. Did score a surprise snowfall right as the cold event was ending but that was it.

December was great. Plenty of snow and long lasting cold (which made the monthly mean stand out). Nothing too crazy anomalous though, which was the only thing lacking that month.

The snow cover helped to maximize the surface level cold in early-mid Jan because the pattern setup was mostly backdoor and I believe the east side of the ridge even nudged over us at some point so it was essentially an inversion. Oregon sure got blasted though... couple snowstorms and fairly extreme cold by their standards. Both early Dec and early Feb in winter '13-14 were like this as well.

GFS still brings in the cold after day 10 with temps remaining below freezing (temps hover between about 0c and -8c) until the end of the run.

Here's a GIF showing the highs and lows from day 10 thru 16.

Entire Hatzic Valley put on evacuation alert by Fraser Valley Regional District
https://www.missioncityrecord.com/news/ ... -district/
The entire Hatzic Valley was put on evacuation alert by the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) last night (Nov. 28) due to the latest atmospheric river event.

The Hatzic Prairie, Miracle Valley and western parts of Dewdney are all within the evacuation-alert zone (FVRD’s Electoral Areas G and F). The alert was issued at 5:10 p.m., Nov. 28, and is affecting 1,600 properties.

“There is a risk of flooding, stream overflow, and slope movements at various locations in Hatzic Valley,” the alert says.

“Streams are at bank-full or overflowing and slopers are saturated. Road access could get cut off by floods or minor slope failures.”

And here he is again assessing the damage from the great ice storm of 1935. 100mm+ of freezing rain in the valley with that storm.

Unconfirmed reports that this was Johnny testing out the original Sumas Lake.

Would be pretty cool if he could do it again this winter.
