It hasn't crossed yet...

Enjoying the fire storm updates Glace, better than the B.C. fire center.
I've got family in 100 mile house area/Deka lake and Willy's puddudle.
The 7th annual snowfall contest is canceled due to no snow this winter.

Jk I'm glad that things didn't get out of control there. What a summer so far. I'm thinking August is a write off if we get our usual dose of offshore flow to bring us the smoke. Hope I'm wrong.
Agreed. My guess is we see another heat wave in August with an offshore flow. Models will likely overdue the daytime highs as the smoke blocks the sun. That said, it will still be uncomfortably hot with horrible air quality. Welcome to BC, the best place on earth.

I’m sensing an early fall this year. Mid to late August I think we flip the switch. I hope so anyway.

I noticed that the satellite map only updates twice a day or so so it could very well have crossed the Highway by now. I seem to remember reading earlier today that it did, but can't find where I read that.

The GEM and the Goofus tonight were quite decent if you are hoping for some fire relief. The Euro is coolish so at least no major smokefests in sight.

Given our typical summer dry period began a couple weeks earlier than usual this year I'd bet on an earlier start to fall as well, or at least a wet spell sometime in August before we dry out again for a while in September.

Otherwise its entirely possible we could be waiting a bit longer for significant precip as there is precedent; some years have remained relatively dry until well into September or even October, like 1896, 1901, 1944, 1958, 1986 or 2012.

Not that it really means anything, the evolution this June and July seems similar to 1896. Precip shut off mid June, with a late June heatwave and a bone dry July.

Later that year we got slammed with an arctic blast rivaling that of November '85, where temps hovered between -15c and 0c for two weeks.

Here's the data for Nov 1896 from the old Chilliwack station if you want to check it out: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_d ... imeframe=2

So I just read that the Brenda Creek wildfire is threatening the only transmission line that feeds West Kelowna. If that line goes down, the power in the entire city would be out.

From what I understand, they are planning on building a secondary line but that project has not been completed yet. Hopefully the line is okay. A major power outage would not be good at all.

My family member's house burned down in the Big Stick fire. Decades of memories up in smoke. The original owner from passed away a year ago so didn't have to learn of its fate, but her 40 year old grandson went and discovered the house's fate with my brother yesterday. Needless to say, a few tears were in their eyes.

At least no one was hurt or killed. Had other homes not been evacuated the night before, there's no way some would have made it out in time.
