Models have trended warmer and drier within 10 days. More splitting. 10+ days could go either way. No clear signals for an arctic blast. Models suggest the coldest air will slide into the Praries....

That vortex over Alaska looks stronger on the 12Z Euro compared to the 00Z which doesn’t bode well for the rest of the run, but we’ll see. :tiredos:

That's fine. It will eventually break down and move somewhere else, most likely with the core of it heading southeast into the Prairies and upper midwest states like Minnesota. Even if that happens, we could still tap into that cold air.
It always snows in December in the Kootenays

Splitting is not going anywhere this winter. Chasing carrots is not a game you want to play.

I’m not quite as pessimistic. It will get cold this winter and it will snow. Probably.

Not pessimism. No doubt we will see colder departures for Jan with a good ski season but a consolidated PV with no real blocking means no real "arctic" air intrusions. Today is an example of how it can snow without any source of arctic air. This appears to be a pattern we will see until mid-late Jan. Beats Mountain melting death ridging.

I personally can't care less for big historic cold blasts, only thing you get from that is dry cold, give me -1°-0° C snow any time of the day.

Flurry all morning on the local mountains.
