Many native trees and plant species are dying and decaying due to the drought and the local streams are running way too low for salmon to migrate. Soil core profiles show decaying of root strucrures and loosening up of soils.

Special weather statement in effect for:

Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta
Windy conditions are forecast to begin Monday afternoon for the South Coast.

Timespan: Monday near noon through Monday night.

Location: The South Coast.

Threat: Wind gusts to 60 km/h may toss loose objects and cause drought-weakened tree branches to break. These may give rise to injuries, damage, or power outages.

Remarks: A cold front will sweep through the South Coast Monday afternoon bringing our first wind event of the season. Northwest winds 40 km/h gusting 60 can be expected and will be strongest near the water and along the frontal passage. Conditions will ease Monday night as the front exits the province.

Little to no precipitation accumulation is expected during this time.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.

Current state of the evergreen trees are primarily due to the looper moth infestation, which has been very prevalent throughout the park. See below:

So l rest my case Tmoth Zussman absolutely dropped the ball on this and did not do any investigative work on the cause of the evergreens looking so stressed. it's reasons like this that l'll watch CTV or City news seldom CBC just for a change of pace l find Global news misses alot of local news stories they don't qualify as the #1 news station. IMO
