Not to mention how dreary and ugly snow looks when it gets dirty (which it does as it melts), and how long it takes for all that ugly dirty melting snow to vanish in a cold-winter climate.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 3:34 pm Agree. Give me the fast and quick melt once it gets slushy.
I hated going to Sudbury in the late spring when it would get warmer and you would have meter deep slush pools on trails that were hidden under thin ice. My uncle nearly lost his snowmobile in a run off pond that formed unbeknownst to him

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
Without the threat of flooding, I quite like how the prairies transition into spring sometimes. Still have snow on the ground, lots of dry/sunny 4c/-4c type days and gradually warm up. Kind of like what we had in late Feb/early March 2019.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 3:15 pm
Fair enough. I suppose it can be said (may have been said already) that at least when we thaw, we get it done in 2 days instead of a flood-prone 2 months like in the Prairies.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
30mm of freezing rain. Although temps are not budging much out there. Could be higher.

Normally 50-75mm of rain wouldn't be concerning but freezing levels above 1800m and rivers will be running very high with lots of snow melt in the alpine and lowlands adding to river and creek discharge.

There is also the anomalously deep mid elevation (300-800m) snowpack too. Will add to the runoff issues here.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 4:25 pm 30mm of freezing rain. Although temps are not budging much out there. Could be higher.

In 2020 the front stalled inside the city limits for hours. Huge temperature differences from one end of town to the other. Fun times.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
Lots of snow here. Depending on where you measure, I have around 20-28 cm on the ground. Around 10 cm last night.
Freezing rain just started and my current temperature is -3.5C. This could end up being a significant ice storm out here.
