I wouldn't exactly consider this "very cold air" on day 8 and 9. 850mb temps look to be between -10c and -18c in the interior which isn't really that significant. :dunno:

The blocking looked better to me but maybe its just me. Still lots of time but we don't need a moderating trend right now.

Weakened signal for high latitude blocking over Alaska day 7-9 over the last few runs while day 10+ looks to be the same. As you said, we don't want that turning into a trend.

Yup. Time will tell. Though I have a hard time imaging all we get a is a transitionary cold snap with the modelled blocking.

Let's hope it doesn't turn into a trend or if it does, that it reverts back to the colder solutions. Still lots of time. Models keep flip flopping so nothing is set in stone yet.

The 500mb signal looks good. But unfortunately, there just isn't a strong cold signal. Hopefully that changes. I was hoping we would have more cold to work with after the SSW. Hopefully its still coming but perhaps its been dumped on the other side of the pole?

wetcoast91 wrote: Fri Jan 15, 2021 10:00 am The trick is to say the outlook looks promising for cold and snow regardless of the model trends. This ensures you don't get downvoted and recieve sassy messages from Michael1, Bono and "WinterStormPro."

Truth be told...I think most of us woud prefer dry over the crud we seen the past 3 weeks.
This.

Actually, snow first then a nice cool, dry stretch.

Ya the 500mb pattern looked cold but not as much cold air available. Still better than yesterdays 12z at least

This is another headfake IMO. I’ve fallen for it so many times. If I’m wrong then meh, it’s just weather. We’ll survive.

Nothing could bring me down anyways. I get my doggy back today

We are shocked how fast she’s getting her walking ability back. Dogs are incredibly resilient like that.

Good to hear that. Yup, to all dog lovers like us, your dog’s health is more important than the weather hobby.
