Everyone would like the new year to be better than the last. Statistically, 2024 was phenomenal for Jonathan David. If the Canadian can top it, he might put himself in the Ballon d’Or conversation in 2025.
Liverpool. Bayern Munich. Real Madrid. They are the elite amongst Europe’s big clubs. The Lille crest stands out when listed with those iconic badges. But amongst the top goal contributors last year, David had Les Dogues’ crest and his name higher on the list than any Canadian before him.
Only Mo Salah, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé had more combined goals and assists in 2024 than the Canadian men’s national team star. Now that’s some company.
David produced a total of 47 goals and assists last year, just two fewer than new Real Madrid star Mbappé, three less than Alphonso Davies’ Bayern Munich teammate, Kane. Salah led Europe’s top-5 leagues in production with 52 goals and assists in 2024.
Last month, David was crowned Canada Soccer Player of the Year for the second time in his career, five years after he was named Canada’s best men’s soccer player in 2019 as a teenager. He played in all 14 CanMNT games in 2024, scoring five times and adding three assists. Three of those five goals were match-winners: Canada’s first-ever victory at Copa América against Peru in the group stage, the decisive goal in CanMNT’s first win against the USMNT on American soil in 57 years, and the late winner against Panama in Jesse Marsch’s first game on Canadian soil as CanMNT boss.
Last year, David hit the century mark scoring goals in a Lille shirt. He currently leads the Ligue 1 Golden Boot race with 11 goals. He now has 17 goals in 25 club games this season. He has 26 direct goal contributions (20 goals and six assists) in 30 matches for club and country since the start of Lille’s 2024-25 season.

Happy New Year.
Anyway, here's a goal chart for you. It's crazy , Alex Ovechkin is on pace to make it 10... well, his shooting percentage is just insane right now, so probably won't happen though.

I'm not sure Typo but l hope the Nuckles keep Q out of participating since he has a minor injury.
The other amazing fact about this game l remember was that Jim Robson' had a terrible cold and sounded real hoarse back in those days there was no color guy. Although l do recall one time Big All Davidson doing color with Jim. Apparently Big Al loved to drink he looked waisted in this shot and back then l guess you could smoke anywhere. I remember photos of CKNW's Jack Cullen at his studio in the old Brentwood Mall he had his record store there as well. I've seen photos of him smoking and a bottle of booze there as well his friends would pop in as well while he was broadcasting, the memories of Vancouver radio growing up was fun back then. They were playing in Washington they were an expansion team that year and they were horrible but it was an exciting game with Jim Robson's play by play but l don't recall the Chris Oddliefson injury to Keith Magnuson was one tough Blackhawk SOB l remember, ah the good old days.

At last! The Vancouver Canucks end their 9-game losing streak on Jan. 23, 1975. They beat the hapless first-year Washington Capitals 3-2, immediately after the All Star break (that Gary Smith played in).
Chris Oddleifson (at left in photo) had supplemented his CCM helmet with protective bars, after a broken jaw Dec. 15 1974 sustained in a fight against Keith Magnuson. He will experiment with another helmet and protector when the nearly-healed jaw was elbowed from below.
These were the first Canuck points earned in 1975. After the 9-game losing streak, the Canucks enjoyed a burst of energy, at least for a time - winning 7 of the next 9 games.
