I sure wouldn't want to be working graveyard at your age...I mean our age. Probably not good at any age, I've done it for a year, not fun.

Went to yesterday's canucks flames game in Abby, not a bad game, nice to see the players up close, you get more of an appreciation of how good and how fast these players are. Daniel Sprongmenko looked good. We'll see how long of a leash Tocchet gives him.
We had good seats but the seats themselves are horrible, way too small, shoulder to shoulder, once your in you can't move an inch in any direction, with shins/knees crunched against the hard back rest of seat in front of you. No thanks, not doing that again. :gramps:

Here's an amazing statistic crazy to think suitcase Smith played well when he came to Vancouver.

April 3, 1971: Gary “Suitcase” Smith Loses 48th Game Of The Year – An NHL Record That Still Stands Today

In 1970-71, Gary Smith played 71 out of 78 games for the California Golden Seals. The team won just 20 games, finishing dead last, ten points behind the nearest competitor. Without Smith, it is quite conceivable the team would have lost even more games. Gary led the NHL in games played, minutes played, shots, saves, goals against and, obviously, losses.

On April 3, 1971, it was the final game of the season for California, playing on the road against the Los Angeles Kings at the Forum. The Seals jumped out to a 3-0 lead within the first 6:53 of the first period. Going into the third period, they still held a 4-3 edge. However, Bob Pulford, Ralph Backstrom and Eddie Joyal scored for the Kings in the third to make the final score 6-4.

Suitcase was pummeled with 52 shots, making 46 saves in the loss. The 48th loss broke the previous record, set by Al Rollins of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1953-54, by one. Peter Sidorkiewicz came close in 1992-93, losing 46 with the Ottawa Senators.

Mercifully, it would be the last game Smith would play for the Golden Seals. Prior to the 1971-72 NHL season, he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks for Kerry Bond, Gerry Desjardins and Gerry Pinder. With the Hawks, his GAA dropped to 2.42 while recording five shutouts over just 28 games as Tony Esposito's backup. The two shared the Vezina for their efforts.

Gary Suitcase Smith played 3 years in Vancouver after two years in Chicago. His 2nd year he played 72 games for the Canucks.

He was a really good goalie who tried to score a goal a few times. The reason why goalies aren't allowed to carry the puck over the red line is because of him after he carried the puck over the centerline.

Edit: modern stats for you...

Same with Gump Worsley. He won rookie of the year with the NY Rangers in 1952/53, so he asked for a $500 raise, and they responded by sending him to the minor leagues with the Vancouver Canucks in the Western Hockey League (not to be confused with the modern major Junior WHL).

Same goes with Johnny Bower. He made his NHL debut with the Rangers at the age of 29 the year Gump Worsley played for the Canucks. The next year they swapped places and Johnny Bower was back in the minors until he became a fulltime NHL goalie at the age of 33, and for 10 years he was the oldest player on the Maple Leafs and oldest goalie in the NHL, winning 4 cups along the way. That's what you call a late bloomer!

Speaking of the Leafs...

Wow Q is a monster insane Glace.

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Quinn Hughes has become the 3rd fastest defenceman in NHL history to record 300 assists!
1. Robert Orr - 346 games
2. Brian Leetch - 368 games
3. Quinn Hughes - 376 games
4. Paul Coffey - 377 games
5. Gary Suter - 400 games

I remember this game well it was against the Jets at home. Bure didn't score but he dazzled the crowd he did score his first NHL goal the next game l can't recall who it was against and l'm to lazy to Google it. :shifty:
On This Day In Hockey History:

November 6th, 1991, The Russian Rocket took flight as Pavel Bure made his NHL debut for the Vancouver Canucks. 🇷🇺🚀

 That's horrible!
November 11th, 1981. Minnesota vs Winnipeg. The Jets had 42 shots, the North Stars 51. The score: 15-2 for the North Stars. Poor Doug Soetaert was in for all 15 goals against. Only Frank Brophy in 1920 gave up more (16).

Alex Ovechkin is LEADING the league in goals with 13. Obviously his chances of leading at the end of the season are very very slim, but it got me thinking, what is the anyone has ever done age 39 or older in NHL history?

Answer:
1) Gordie Howe, age 39 =3rd spot
2) Gordie Howe, age 40 = 5th
3) Bill Cook, age 39 = 7th

4) Gordie Howe, age 41 = 15th
5) Johnny Bucyk, age 40 = 18th

6) Teemu Selänne, age 40 = 22nd (only 1 goal behind 25 year old Alexander Ovechkin that year with 6 fewer games played)
7) Jean Beliveau, age 39 = 29th

8) Shane Done, age 39, 32nd
9) Jaromír Jágr, age 40 = 36th (shortened 46 game season)
10) Jaromír Jágr, age 43 = 37th
11) Teemu Selänne, age 39 = 37th (just 54 games played)
12) Brett Hull, age 39 = 37th

13) Gordie Howe, age 42 = 40th
14) Daniel Alfredsson, age 39 = 42nd
15) Johnny Bucyk, age 39 = 43rd
16) Bill Cook, age 40 = 46th

17) Teemu Selänne, age 41 = 52nd
18) Dave Prentice, age 40 = 52nd
19) Jaromír Jágr, age 41 = 56th
20) Jean Ratelle, age 39 = 57th
21) Dave Prentice, age 39 = 58th
22) Alex Delvecchio, age 39 = 59th

23) Joe Nieuwendyk, age 39 = 64th
24) Ray Whitney, age 39 = 68th

25) Joe Pavelski, age 39 = 70th
26) Dave Andreychuk, age 40 = 72nd
27) Mark Messier, age 39 = 73rd
28) Martin St. Louis, 39 = 78th
29) Mark Recchi, 40 = 79th

30) Ron Francis, age 39 = 81st
31) Teemu Selänne, age 42 = 82nd (shortened 46 game season)
32) Johnny Bucyk, age 41 = 85th (only 46 games played)
