Re: January 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
Catching up post holiday, does it look like we're going to see any cold weather or snow in the lower mainland through at least the third week of January?

Re: January 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
New article this morning from Tyler Hamilton:

WINTER PATTERN DELAYED, BUT NOT DENIED?
There are several long-range forecast models that show a major pattern change for the second half of January. These models support the idea that the winter pattern is delayed, but not denied.
Here is an example of one model forecast for the final week of January, which shows widespread colder than normal temperatures. We think that a pattern change like this will eventually occur, but we have to keep in mind that models have had a tendency to falsely forecast cold patterns on occasion in the long range.

Almost certainly waiting until the last week of Jan at the earliest. My bets on February personally.

Re: January 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
We had a sudden pattern change overnight here. I woke up several times in the night to the sound of heavy rain. Sometime it changed over and I woke to heavy snow, still snowing at 0.1c with about 5 cm so far.

Re: January 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
I love it when snows show up in February..they almost always start to melt on the next sunny day. If no sun, the snow usually never lasts anyways

Re: January 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
I’m sure it will get cold at some point. Maybe.
I’d probably give it a 10-20% chance of a turn to much colder during week 3 of the month. Probably closer to 50/50 for something in week 4. MBG!

Re: January 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
I like the trends of a massive ridge overhead. This would set us up for some fake cold and sunny days! CMON!!!!
This mild rain is even too much for me. I would gladly take Jan-Feb 2015 with +15C sunshine.

Snowing at Sasquatch. Pretty consistent that they are getting snow when the north shore is seeing rain.

I really doubt we see any ridging overhead last too long. Either it retrogrades or we see the jet break through and it turns wet again.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 9:33 am I like the trends of a massive ridge overhead. This would set us up for some fake cold and sunny days! CMON!!!!

Fortunate that the really wet gfs runs from a couple days ago aren’t going to verify. The Landscape could not handle a big hit of rain right now, over here anyways. Rivers are at bank full and shawnigan lake is beginning to flood a few places. I’ve seen it probably about 30cm higher before but it’s nearing its max.
