Re: September 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
Constant light rain since daybreak. Up to 5.6 mm so far, overperforming what was forecast. Evidently the atmospheric river hit a little further south than modelled and we are on the southern edge of the constant precip from that system. Currently 15.2˚C.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Re: September 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
Ended up with 6.4 mm from yesterday’s system. Now on to a one-day torch, followed by more seasonable weather (and more rain chances).

Re: September 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
I know I've posted this many times but the October 1962 PNW windstorm is so impressive. Given the how much more populated the region is today, such a storm would cause a lot more chaos than it did back in 1962. Imagine more than half the lower mainland without power for several days not to mention the widespread destruction to homes and businesses? Abbotsford's peak wind gusts hit 145km/h during that storm. The remnants of Typhoon Freda getting caught up in an unusually strong pacific jet stream was the culprit. Looking at the storm development on the map is outright insane. I've never seen anything like it even on a clown range map. Check out how quickly the storm intensified as it moved up the Oregon coast:
Started out like this at 12:00PM:
And then exploded into this at 3:00PM:
Look at the change in pressure gradients within 3 hours. Absolutely insane and unheard of in this region. That's a full on hurricane.
And look at how strong the storm remained as it approached SW Vancouver Island at 9:00PM:
Just an absolutely insane windstorm. Apparently, it was said to be a one in 100 year storm. It's been 62 years since it hit the region.

Re: September 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
Beautiful research Jr. Man l look forward to perhaps other past events throughout this fall and winter. Just a suggestion maybe an October past big event and say the November 2021 flooding, December could be the 1968 Arctic blast event and so on its your choice.AbbyJr wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 7:29 pm I know I've posted this many times but the October 1962 PNW windstorm is so impressive.
