Anyone live near the Fraser river in the valley? How's the mosquito situation?
My wife was at Fort Langley today and said the mosquitoes were brutal, right in town. People swatting and running for cover at restaurant patios, lol.
Must be the high river levels, mosquito eggs that were layed at the higher parts of the river banks finally got their water to hatch. Apparently the eggs can stay alive for several years waiting for the water to reach them.
High of 20.8° today..decent I guess.
Happens every year when it floods or gets really high. I remember 1999 golfing at Redwoods and even there the mosquitos were bad and that is 2km from the river.
Picture of the fires burning in NWT. Hot weather, which has become more frequent with climate change, increases the likelihood of wildfires in the arctic. This is not only because it dries out fuels, but also because it increases the chances of thunderstorms and associated lightning, which is the main source of ignition in remote areas. (Image: NASA)

Well, it seems like we're slipping into our typical dry summer pattern. Lots of brown grass starting to show up around town.
Since June 22nd there has only been 3.5 mm at YXX and 7.8 mm at my place.
Vancouver has been much wetter than the valley this month with 26.1 mm since June 22nd.
I've had over 50 mm so far this month, including 20 yesterday.

Well, according to Fraser river mosquitoe experts the eggs can survive several years if deposited at very high levels where water levels don't reach every year. So in theory I'm guessing the year when the river gets very high and reaches those eggs there will eggs hatching from every level ,therefore that's the year you will get a ton of mosquitoes.
Small earthquake. I was outside and didn't feel it but the neighbours did and posted on our local facebook page. I looked it up and sure enough there's a blip on the seismograph.
