This year is a total write off to go into the interior of BC. There is little rain up expected up there the next two weeks and much of the greenery has turned brown or died. There's way too much fuel up there. This is going to be a really bad fire season so I would just save the inconvenience of having to evacuate at a moments notice.

But hey, at least backcountry camping is a go!

The number that's most impressive here is Yoho national Park. At 1600m elevation, 38 degrees is even more impressive than Lytton's 50. If we assume 1 degree rise per 100m drop, Yoho would have been 51 degrees at Lytton's elevation.

But 90% of Lytton burned down last night, and if the weather station also burned, then the village probably set a new Canadian record for the 4 th day in a row of something like 1000 degrees.

Surface is what really matters re. air quality I would think. If it's all upper air smoke it shouldn't be too much concern for the mainland.

Probably true, but we are surrounded by fires now except to the west. Fires in California, Oregon, and the interior. It's just a matter of time.

Yes, all that the lower air HRRR outlook means is that we are safe for the next few days. Eventually, we will be in the murk. I just can’t see avoiding it entirely this year, and given how early fire season is starting, it seems likely that we will have even more smoky days than the worst of the recent bad smoke seasons.

I Bought some n95 masks and considering a hepa filter. At least trying to do something about it this time, of course theres not much you can do about the gloominess that it brings.

Anyone hear about a grass fire along highway 1 in between Young rd and Prest rd. there's a burnt stretch about 40 yards in length that l didn't see yesterday.

I'm a proud British Columbian when Lytton hit the all time Canadian high, today l'm in complete misery over the devastation in Lytton.
They've had fires over the years around the town and escaped unscathed what made this the perfect storm.

Well Mr. Freezer under normal circumstances l would LOL about the 1000 degree comment but not today bud.

I don't think many members can stomach celebrating right now.
When l posted the new July topic normally l would have started with happy canada day. This year just doesn't feel right to be saying that what a shame.

Bunch of small fires reported, one is in city limits in the Juniper Hill area..hopefully they can contain it quickly. At least there was some rain with the storms but everything is already so dry

Just awful. You can hear the wind just whipping the flames in one of the videos.
