I'm thankful I missed that. I stopped watching the news after it was obvious it was going to be a Liberal minority.

I hope there is not an NDP-Liberal coalition as well but I fear there will be one. Canada is going further in debt, unfortunately. :(

There will be no coalition. Trudeau has a strong enough minority to be able to govern without one, IMO.

Is he allowed to govern without a coalition if he does not have an official majority? I didn't think so but I could be wrong.

Yes. Most votes are not votes "confidence", but budget bills are. When they draft the Spring budget, they will need to get the support of 14 other members to pass it.

Interesting, I've never been the most politically knowledgeable person but I know enough to make an educated vote.

There shouldn't be any issues with getting the budget passed.

Harper was able to govern with an even smaller minority government without a coalition between 2006 and 2008. He had a slightly bigger minority thereafter from 2008 till 2011.

Correct don't they need 177 votes to pass any legislations? so then you would have the NDP say o.k. we want this and this to give you our votes on any bills the Liberals may want passed. That's how we got healtcare thanks to Tommy Douglas.

170 I believe. And some wouldn't need the approval of the NDP; for example, both the liberals and conservatives want to push through with the pipeline so that shouldn't be an issue.

Trudeau says he wants the Pipeline but it seems like he's not fighting hard to get it pushed through. Hmmmm :?

All the parties have to tread carefully especially the Bloc and ndp when it comes to passing bills , people are not in the mood for a non confidence vote that would trigger another election.

Especially the NDP who are flat broke. They had to mortage their Ontario headquarters to pay for the election. But don't worry, they are very good at spending everyone else's money -- as one Liberal party strategist pointed out on TV last night: "Liberal - NDP governments tend to be very expensive."

PS: Only 4 ridings in BC were won by more than 50% of the vote:
1) Prince George--Peace River--Northern Rockies by the Conservatives with 69.9% of the vote.
2) Cariboo--Prince George by the Conservatives with 52.7% of the vote.
3) Vancouver East by the NDP with 52.5% of the vote.
4) Abbotsford by the Conservatives with 51.6% of the vote.
