Nice for an evening dip in the Pacific ocean.
The 7th annual snowfall contest is canceled due to no snow this winter.

I used to have a south facing bedroom on the second floor of our house which was built in 1997. It used to get scorching in there. I installed a window AC and life was livable again and sleep was more importantly easy. No one should suffer in the heat. My friend has a new condo built in 2020 and it also get's hot as heck in there and that's with an east/north facing window set. The place never cools down because the heat comes from the rest of the building so you need to leave all windows open 24/7. It sucks big time. As for building being better built or better insulated compared to back in the day? That's a joke. Walls are thin, air leaks everywhere, quality is complete garbage nowadays in modern homes. The only thing that improved were the windows. Everything else has become cheap thin junk.

It was 11 years ago this long weekend the Mrs and I took off to Mt St Helens. It was stifling hot. Here's three of the many pictures I took. I was only 14 months old when the big event happened, so I don't have any memories of it. But when I saw a 10 year anniversary documentary at the age of 11 about it, I got hooked on learning all about the eruption and the people and places it impacted.

One of the pics is at the Johnston Ridge Observatory in the foreground. The one pic directly of St Helens was also at the observatory. We walked along the ridge and the air had an acrid smell to it. The other picture is the south end of the renewed Sprirt Lake. After the eruption the lake bed was 150 ft higher, and the lake was broader. This means that this glimpse of the south end of the lakes was where Harry R Truman's Mt St Helens Lodge was. Incredible to fathom.

I had a thorough academic understanding of the eruption, but to see it for yourself brings a deeper reality to how widespread that lateral blast was. At least for folks like David Johnston and Harry Truman, a 600F pyroclastic flow at 400mp/h fortunately meant death was instantaneous when the landslide and pyroclastic flow it.

swimming in the ocean was so disappointing, I love the cold plunges but it was like bathwater. Same with the Okanagan Lake today.

At least its not 100 Farenheit like that buoy in Florida I guess.

Yeah, that's absolutely insane Kells 😳 apparently it's so hot off of Florida 🔥 it's killing off the coral reefs that scary indeed.

Yea, David Johnston was up on that ridge that morning. He was the vulcanologist that predicted a lateral blast. He radioed in, "Vancouver! Vancouver! This is it." They found a headlight from his truck--that's all. There's pictures of Johnston on the ridge with the north side of the volcano herniating like a pregnant belly from the magma building up. It's a head scratcher that they stationed vulcanologists on that ridge. Harry Truman was terrified of the earthquakes. But he was convinced the mountain wouldn't harm him. In an interview he said something to the effect that there's no way that mountain has got enough stuff in it to come this way. I looked up Harry Truman's life. It was very remarkable, fascinating and a tragically fitting end. He lived there for decades, he buried his wife there, so it's good that the authorities just left the guy alone.

It must have been very eerie indeed Rugmatt man, perhaps just as eerie when we stop in at the Hope slide you just stand there in silence and think about the soles that were never recovered.
