That block and GOA trough looks semi-permanent and seems like a feature that can linger around for 6-8 weeks. I could even see the block on the west coast strengthening if we see SSW by mid Dec.

I was thinking the same thing. Good news was that by mid month, there was flip in the models and the ridge moved up into the GOA.

We had some close calls for big low elevation snows... if only there was a bit more cold to work with we would have had a couple major snowstorms. That Fraser Valley ice storm was oh so close to being epic snows. A couple degrees temperature difference in the upper levels was the difference between freezing rain and heavy snow. Very unfortunate but I wouldn't complain at another chance of something like that working out.

As time ticks on, it becomes more apparent that we will not get a front loaded winter...again. Those are possible here too. Waiting to see what happens in late December doesn't allow much margin for error. Once January hits, we are down to about 6 weeks +/- of the "nice snows". Slushfestivals suck.
Lets hope to see some positive maps in the next 72 hours please. Santa needs some snow to ride in on in a few short weeks :snowmobile:

We were always saying it would be a backloaded winter though because it's a La Nina. :)

Not all Nina's are backloaded. For example, 2007/2008, 2008/2009, 2010/2011, and 2016/2017 were all frontloaded Ninas.

2008/08 was the only non backloaded winter out of that bunch. 2016-17 was chilly throughout.

'07-08 and '10-11 were most certainly backloaded, though we did have a couple good early events in early Dec and mid Nov respectively. Both winters then featured persistently chilly anomalies after mid Jan.

Front loaded, back loaded, how about just one winter-long load.

All things considered, as we near the end of Nov, it has been fairly normal thus far. I heard grumblings that Nov was going to be warm and wet lol :shh: and instead it looks fairly normal. Local mtns have a decent amount of snow. Snow levels have been bouncing like usual, yet often low enough for the ski hills to score. Interior mtns must be above normal snowpack. All this by Nov 25. Not bad
The initial forecast was La Nina..looks like a long term fail, or premature verdict. Take your pic butties.
The AR event the GFS had several days ago failed badly. I'm sure some of the models for the 10-14 day period are way off. It may be delayed, but there may be big snows in time for us for the holidays, maybe sooner. For November, i don't remember how long it has been where ive seen the local snow levels quite low throughout the month considering the repeated storms.
