Today is a perfect example to show the stupidity/uselessness of a daily record: with 18.0°C, the Tmax in Vancouver is NOT a daily record (18.4°C in 1980) BUT this is the 3rd highest temperature ever recorded in November since 1937.

Wow, 18c in 1980 is insane for end of December.

Interestingly enough, that's the year we went to Europe for Christmas (I was in southern West Germany at the time) - weather was cold and snowy the entire Christmas holidays, we went tobogganing, and something like 20-30cm of snow throughout that week. It seems their weather is always opposite of what it's doing here

We had a fairly significant cold snap at the beginning of December in 1980 actually.

Yeah I remember that snowfall too - I was a youngster back in those days - but it was nice and snowy (quite cold) here in Abbotsford around then too

Completely different here. Some heavy showers in the morning but plenty of sunny breaks by afternoon with warm temps. 22.5mm recorded since midnight at the northeast Coquitlam rain gauge, almost all falling in the morning.

There were actually a few breaks in the cloud here today but there were also periods of extremely heavy rain. Very convective and localized.
