We don't need air conditioning in BC. Even here in the Okanagan Valley it's not that bad. That said, I do have an AC unit in my upstairs bedroom. Main floor isn't bad.
But if you live on Ontario, Quebec, or even Manitoba, summers are hotter than the Okanagan when you factor in the humidity, so you do need air conditioning.

600 people died in one weekend…what am I missing here?
Is this another episode of “old people dying en masse isn’t a problemâ€Â
You have AC but you don’t think other people who probably are higher risk need it. Mind numbing post.

Question I have, what if one owns his/her own home but can’t afford air conditioning who is responsible for that?
If it a basic human right should the government provide it like healthcare
l love you still John.

You certainly need it if you live in an old apartment. A friend had to clean up two bodies in Vernon. Both old people who were dead for like a week in the upper floor of an apartment in the extreme heat. Modern insulated houses don't get so hot. Those apartment building were build in the 1970s when building codes weren't like today.
Also apartment building windows don't open. I opened up my doors and windows and things cold down. If I didnt' ahve open windows my house would be pretty unlivable in 2021.
We reached a high of 29c in the central valley today.

Oof..that double pump heatwave can bleep right off. I'm ok with an August 2021, 3 days of heat and then crash. I think that was then followed by a period of non stop rain train until mid December 2021.

At least it's only the GFS, which I don't ever take seriously when it differs from other models. Even at that, it's usually just playing catch up and rarely gets the pattern right from the start. That said, there have been recent Euro runs that have showed major heat. Today the Euro backed off but it's still far too early to suggest that we are out the woods. Like I said earlier, we will have a better idea next week.
For now it's a wait and see situation. An intense prolonged heatwave is possible but typical summer warmth is also possible.

This isn't true...
My cousin has a newer built condo, and starting in April, it gets insanely hot on that floor, let alone forget mid summer. They try to leave the condo as much as they can all summer it's THAT bad.
Newer houses? Really? My friends new house is ridiculously hot in the summer if he didn't have his AC, so I don't even know what you're going on about.

Thanks for at least liking some of my posts
I just think it’s a little simple to assume that everybody gets AC instantly after we’ve had one terrible heat dome, which caused a lot of deaths sadly
The reason why these people died is exactly because of little empathy in society.
People aren’t looking out for each other anymore.
If you expect government to take care
Of everyone perfectly I hate to tell you that will never happen.
I definitely like some of your posts, so don't take it personally !
It just sucks that we have to debate things like this instead of just caring about other people.

Hold on... it's going way too far if you're suggesting that John doesn't care about other people. I'm sure he does. We have no reason to assume otherwise. The debate is to what extent should the government have control in our lives. Is it going too far for the government to take away the landlord and strata's freedom to choose whether or not to permit A/C units? That's the question. It's not about not caring about people. It's about rights and freedoms. It's a tough one because it's not good for the government to have too much power. However, if they don't step in at all then that allows us to be treated unfairly by others such as landlords and strata management.

Where did I say John didn't care about other people ? Lol
I said, " it sucks we have to talk about this instead of caring about other people."
Meaning I wish we already had a solution that helps instead of the government and the landlords not caring and turning a blind eye.
This comment was directed at the government/landlords and people thinking it's okay for others to melt away.
