I think after the last three winters, I am done looking at analogs, indices, and other such data as it doesn't seem to be very reliable.

It was 7C and mostly cloudy today, so a nice early spring day. Would've liked more sun though.
Yup I agree with the Eastside Antler. Anything more than a few days out means little. I remember all those maps showing the Wetcoast having a cold/wet winter
Wajoooooooooke!!
And here it is..December 2024 all snow geeks have been waiting for :silent: ..with the LR weather "charts" calling for a cold and snowy month. Where's the troffing? :silent: :silent:

Another excellent spring day here. Sun, warm and windy, had some cloud too...really exciting and I wanted to share the excitement.

I planted spinach inside and it's up already. I think I'll try it in the greenhouse this early. I dug up more of the garden today, pulled out the giant mangel beets. They are worth growing just for fun. I also have artichokes started inside, not up yet and plan to get lettuce, flat peas and sweet peas started soon.

Hopefully we can get a dry and warm stretch. However April-May will likely be chilly and wet.

From December 6th to January 8th I believe we must've had 15 snow chances, some of which busted of course but still that pattern was incredibly juicy. And sandwiched in between there was a week where we didn't even touch 0C. Snowing at -5 on Christmas Day, snowing at -12 on New Years eve. That champagne powder was like heaven. The ice on local ponds and lakes was truly spectacular.

Now January must be considered at least somewhat of a success considering the string of terrible Januaries leading up to it. The last 2/3s of Jan were pretty weak but there were lots of nice sunny days which I kind of appreciated after the misery of the previous two januaries.

February was somewhat of a flop considering what the models were suggesting, but lets not forget there were too marginal snow events and a half decent arctic fart in there. I expected more out of February so I think that's one month I would call a flop.

March has been active and building a good snowpack heading into the dry season.

I still think this was by far the best winter since 2016, and in the running for 3rd best this century in these parts. Not saying a lot but in this day and age I think I'm happy with it.

Yes nice positive spin to the sad winter we had. But the 3rd best this century?

In my books this winter was pretty sad minus "The 10 days of Winter"

I think you are both correct in some way. In my opinion, the winter wasn't great, but wasn't horrible either. It had just enough to not be a dud, but left us yearning for more. Well, some of us anyway.

This century began at the stroke of midnight, 1 January 2001.
