At the end of the day, whoever has the most money and guns ultimately does the talking and pulls the strings whether directly up front or behind the scenes. On that point, other than the up front government financing, we'll never know how much money is pumped into targeted countries behind the scenes.

Ukraine such a Nazified country, they’ve elected a Jew to be president!

Really, now, this “Ukraine is full of Nazis” trope is a propaganda line straight out of the Kremlin.

Yes, Ukraine has a neofascism problem. Most of Europe has a problem with neofascists. But to suggest that the neofascists dominate is misleading in the extreme.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Some reoccurring issues raised in all the linked articles include foreign state and corporate financing, as well as military personnel and foreign financing once again. In that regard, it's most certainly an added layer that has contributed to the crisis.

Nah, 90+% of the current crisis is that Russia has a fascist dictator who hates democracy and wants to recreate the Russian empire by force.

Fair enough.

The other issues - while being minor (<10% according to your estimates) - are still contributors.

It's a horrible situation. At the end of the day, it's the common people that suffer the most, whether that be civilians or soldiers.

I suspect Canada will soon see a wave of Ukrainian immigration, as the country has done many times in the past in accepting refugees from other war-torn countries.

Sure, and the West really screwed the pooch w.r.t. Russia back in the 1990’s, by egging on Yeltsin as he created the strongman presidency that Putin later leveraged into a dictatorship.

Don't take my over-confidence as actual competence..lol. An expert I am not.

Having said that I do believe that the food factor is underrated here. Wars like this will become more common as food gets more and more difficult to produce thanks to climate change. Hell I could see a rogue American regime invading us sooner than later if we don't cede our water to them in the coming decades. Anything and everything is on the table now.

The U.S. and the West will be freezing the assets of wealthy Russians including $250 Billion of Putin's own money...say What?? I had to rewind the news segment to see whether I heard right. How on earth does someone in his position amass that type of wealth? Even if he's fleecing the Russian people, that's unbelievable. Wouldn't that amount make him the wealthiest in the world if true?

And how about Trump supporting Putin regarding Ukraine..unreal..he really must've got help from Russia when he got elected the first time around.

Controlling a government, particularly in an unfree society, can be an effective way to get filthy stinking rich.

So l stopped watching CNN years ago, Global is just looped over and over (repeated) CBC makes me fall asleep and CTV is a Wannabe CNN.
Great choices during times of crisis like now. Forget internet it's either day old news stories or some made up false misinformation and to top it off main stream radio is just as bad the first day NW had breaking repeated news every 15min l didn't tune into News1130 l'm sure it was just as bad.

Not sure if you all remember that Russia got a $22.6 Billion bail out in 1998 by the IMF, of which $11 Billion was disbursed (I think), this was after an earlier $8 Billion paid between 1992 and 1998.
it's generally viewed as a failure as a bail out as the IMF was not able to impose sufficient restrictions on the use of the funds and as earlier as 1999 governments had tracked over $10 Billion of the $18 Billion was laundered through the Bank of New York to be placed in offshore tax havens like Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Switzerland and Cyprus; American officials also considered that another $5 Billion was "misused". if you read up on the Panama papers you will see a number of Oligarchs on the lists.
Global banks like UBS, Credit Suisse & Deutchebank have been hiring Russian speaking advisors since the early 2000's, you don't make that kind of investment just for giggles.

Putin came up through the KGB, he would have been in a brilliant place to collect bribes which I imagine only got more common as he moved up the political power level. $250 Billion might be on the conservative side imo. whether he is the wealthiest in the world :dunno:

Interesting..But regardless of his wealth pretty awful what the Ukrainian people are going through right now, Putin is full of lies and deceit who wants to emulate Stalin, and since he has conquered wealth he now wants more power and has his sights set on the former Soviet States. Looks like he has managed to lull everyone to sleep over the years. He says he doesn't want Ukraine to join NATO and yet former Soviet States Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia already have. He's also threatening Finland and Sweden ,which I was surprised to see that they are not NATO members, yet Norway and Iceland are. Putin's true colors are now in full display, we are living in interesting times.
