Post by stuffradio »

There was a press conference today saying the rest of the stretch of highway 7 between Mission and Maple Ridge will be 4-laned!

Yes it's all 4 lane now from Mission to Silverdale, but there's another section after Silverdale near 280 street that still has to be 4-laned.

They are 4-laning the 450 km from Cache Creek to Prince George. At the current rate, it will be done sometime around the year 2200 to complete this section of highway 97.

Also, they are 4-laning and not twinning, so head ons are still happening and it takes just as long to get to PG.And they are adding more traffic lights instead of overpasses. Very frustrating. Also, because of the crappy roads in BC, it's FASTER to drive up to Jasper and take Alberta to get to Fort St. John. And don't give me the excuse about mountains because there are no mountains through central BC.

Also, same for 97 down the Okanagan. 4-laning from Penticton to Armstrong, but it's actually faster to take the 2 lane Glenmore Rd. into Kelowna than the 4 lane highway! Between Vernon and Osoyoos there are 60 lights for the 180 km section. That's 1 light every 3 km for 180 km! And they keep adding more lights!

Also, Merritt (population 8,000) is the largest city in the interior where you can drive around without a traffic light.

Aren't they also supposed to be 4-laning HWY 1 from Hope all the way to the Alberta border? Seems like that won't be completed until 2200 as well.

At least with that one they are actually doing some projects right now. Seems like with the NDP government they don't know that anything exists beyond Cache Creek so any new highway projects have died.

There's always some construction in sections between Kamloops and the Alberta border which to be fair is beyond Cache Creek.

Wow, driven through Merritt afew times didn't realize that Glace, isn't there a light at the junction highway 1 and the connector to Kelowna? I remember seeing the Cache Creek widening sign coming back from Williams Lake that was afew years ago, l forgot about that part of the project.
I know alot of Begbie Summit was widened 70 mile to 100 mile house that was also about 5 years ago driving through there.

Try 2030 Tspot almost like alot of these projects were announced and then slowly got started and then slowed down then started again, rinse and repeat, thinking the public would forget.
Wasn't there a completion of an accident prone section around 3 valley gap.? It's amazing to think had the Deas island bridge project gone ahead it would have opened late last month what a major blunder,
that area needs a bridge not a tunnel.

You must be referring to hwy 8 or hwy 5a. Hwy 1 doesn't pass through Merritt.

South Delta, by the tunnel, feels your pain. in fact, if you look at a map published by the current provincial government there's a sign saying "here there be dragons" where S Delta should be, much like what is north of Cache

The light is on 97C. Highway 5 is smooth sailing. But yes, you could make the case as another poster has that 5 isn't really in Merritt but around it.

I'd say close enough, but if not, then I'm not sure what interior town would be next? 150 Mile House?

In that respect
