Didn't we have a freeze in October 2016? Seem to recall a pretty impressive trough rolling thru sometime during the month interrupting the persistent wet SW flow which dominated Oct/Nov that year.

Don’t think so. Neither Shawnigan nor Abbotsford dropped below 1C before December that year. 2017 had an impressive cold shot just after Halloween

Hmm, yeah I checked YVR's stats and it looks like they dipped to exactly 0.0C on October 11th but I definitely was thinking about something else.

That trough on Nov 2/3 2017 was pretty crazy. Went from 20C in the last couple days of October to below -5C a few days later. Kind of the opposite of this past March

Our climate rarely surprises me anymore, but I will be quite impressed if we manage to score a freeze this week. Historically, it was normal to get at least one freeze in mid-to-late October, but nowadays it's more often delayed until November... even late November or early December in some years.

Vancouver supposedly sees their first freeze on November 5th on average, but I don't know how accurate that is... http://www.victoryseeds.com/frost/bc.html

I calculated some frost dates manually years ago, but I don't know where I wrote them down. From memory, Abbotsford's was October 23rd, based on data from 1945-2011. But I'm sure that if you only consider the last 30 years, it would be much later.

I remember in the early 90s when I would be waiting for the bus in the mornings in October we would be getting our first frosts.

If you check the radar right now, you can see the cold front dropping over the North Shore mountains.

Currently 8.4C here after a high of 10.3C just after midnight.

I can see it. Very dark to the north over Burke Mountain.

Front passed Hope not too long ago. Down to 5.1C now after being around 10C a few hours ago.

I’ll be pretty miffed if we don’t see a freeze here in the next 2 nights.

Wow, heavy rain now with some pretty decent winds out of the north.

Temps falling....if only this was December. We'd be getting some pretty heavy snowfall right about now!

Looks like those heavy cells taking aim at the valley now... Vancouver should be clearing out soon, if not already.
