Was snowing quite heavily at Black Mountain at 1220meters at Cypress. Was 10cm on the car when we got back.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
Right now, only the GEM is truly extreme in the rainfall department next week. Let's hope that its overdoing things as usual. Just so tired of the fact that the Lower mainland gets blasted with ARs and not a single one can go south of us.

The ICON is pretty dicey too actually. Ugh. Back to reality for the Lower Mainland.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
Well, the last one just destroyed Southern Washington. Another one soaked Northern California in October but I get your point. We are on the verge of ANOTHER historic flooding event next week with a decent soaking and very mild temps. 100-150mm of rain on top of the snowpack under 1200m is going to screw the region.
The Squamish Valley and Fraser Valley are going to be disaster zones by next Thurs and Fri.

Some of the worst episodes of flooding I can remember were AR’s that came on the heels of prolonged cold snaps.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 10:07 pm Really hope for a last minute trend North but it's looking dire.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
After the long cold snap, I recall the AR event in mid Jan 2017 (mild/heavy rain on top of a large mid and low elevation snowpack) originally looked very bad on the models, but it didn't turn out so in the end. Hopefully this trends the same way.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 10:07 pm Well, the last one just destroyed Southern Washington. Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
You called the big one in November. I'm not Betting against you on this one. Although this one just seens kind of obviously set up for failure for this region with the set up and extenuating circumstances.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 10:07 pm Well, the last one just destroyed Southern Washington. The one thing I will say is that more potential big weather events bust than verify. Even when I put my biases aside I believe that applies to things I can't stand like January ARs, heat waves and windstorms.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
This is just one thing after another. Honestly as much as we complain about more boring or tame weather in the more urban parts of the Lower Mainland, you can really see why the population centre was built here, on top of the port city reason. Back in the days when they had even less infrastructure for support, it would have been essential for the weather to not wreak havoc every 2 months.PortKells wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 10:26 pm You called the big one in November. It's a blessing we can complain about weather being boring, because the flip side is that it's exciting all the time, and then it loses its lustre and just becomes a pain in the arse. I really feel for the people affected by flooding or washouts or snow related failures.
